Venezuela's Chavez to Revoke Radio Licenses PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sat, Jul 4, 2009, 09:20 AM

Chavez Radio.jpgThe director of Venezula's telecommunications regulatory agency announced that 240 radio stations will have their licenses revoked over failure to update their registration with the government.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, "a total of 86 AM radio stations and 154 FM radio stations have failed to turn in required documents which will lead to the 'recovery of all those concessions by the state,' said Diosdado Cabelo, who heads the telecommunications agency."

Cabello emphasized the radio stations should 'shut down their equipment right away because we're going to open administrative proceedings, and that involves seizure of equipment." He warned stations using their frequency without government authorization may face sanctions.

Last month, the government started a process of updating the registration of TV and radio stations under a law regulating broadcasters, and demanded that all outlets file information with the regulatory agency by June 23, which includes details about assets and ownership.

According to the Chronicle, "Cabello, a close ally of President Hugo Chavez, said the radio stations that stand to lose their licenses ' are not interested in updating their information' and aren't complying with the law. It remained unclear what recourse the stations might have."

The maneuver occurs amid tensions generated by investigations against-opposition-supported Globovision, a popular Venezuelan TV channel, that could lead to its closure.

Due to the fact that two non-governmental organizations promoted private property rights, Cabello called for the government to investigate a group of unidentified broadcasters for airing such programming.

As reported by the Chronicle, "regulatory officials notified Globovision on Friday that it is tergeted in the new probe, the fifth in six months, said Ana Christina Nunez, a lawyer for the channel. She said the agency ordered the channel to stop showing the commercials, calling it 'one more act of intimidation.'"

All Americans ought to be taking a close look at the ongoing developments in Argentina; for some Americans [the OBAMAISTAS] are watching and want to emulate the repressions of Argentinian commie Hugo Chavez.

Just as Chavez and his gang of thugs are repressing Argentina and her people, these OBAMAISTAS [and the supremme leader and god, Obama] would repress America and her people [and they will if they are premitted by a quiet and cowed down populace to do so .....].
