Fox News reports that, "the misiles were fired from the eastern coastal city of Wonsan on Thursday afternoon, a ministry official said on condition of anonymity citing department policy. He did not say what types of missiles were launched, but Yonhap news agency said they were ground-to-ship missiles." Won Tae-jee, south Korean defense ministry spokesman, is quoted as saying, "one was fired at 5:20 p.m. and the other at 6:00 p.m. from Sinsang-ri," close to the eastern coastal city of Wonsan. Earlier, North Korea had issued a no-sail zone in watrs off its east coast through July 10 for military drills, which has been viewed as a designation as a prelude to such missile tests. According to Fox, "the new launches are expected to exacerbate the tensions running since Pyongyang's May 25 underground nuclear test and a series of missile firings. The UN Security Council adopted a tough sanctions resolution last month to punish the communist regime." South Korea's Foreign minister Yu Myung-hwan told the Associated Press at a reception held at the U.S. amabassador's residence to celebrate the U.S. Independence Day that, "we had expected that they will fire short-range missiles at any time. It's not a good sign because they are demonstrating their military power." The United States needs China's support to enforce the UN sanctions. On Thursday, the U.S. embassy said that Philip Goldberg who is in charge of coordinating the implementation of sanctions against the North, was to meet with Chinese officials in Beijing. As reported by Fox, "earlier in the day, Seoul's JoongAng Ilbo newspaper reported that the North could fire a barrage of missiles in the coming days, including ballistic-Scud or Rodong rockets that the North is banned from testing under U.N. resolutions." On Thursday, North Korea test-fired two short-range missiles, the Defense Ministry of South Korea said, which aggravates the already high tensions following Pyongyang's recent nuclear teast, and U.N. sanctions imposed to punish the rogue regime.
