Irate Protestors Greet Geraldo Rivera in Houston PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Wed, Jul 1, 2009, 09:31 AM

Houston Rivera.jpgOn Monday, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera arrived in Houston and while enjoying a steak dinner, he received a text mesaage from his 14-year-old daughter. She explained the deep sadness she felt upon hearing the news that Houston police officer Henry Canales was killed last week by a suspected illegal immigrant.

The Houston Chronicle quotes Mr. Rivera's response as saying, "we all deplore violent crime, but what has happened is that with these anecdotal tragedies, we have demonized an entire race of people in this country. Immigrant and nonimmigrant alike. citizen and noncitizen alike."

Mr. Rivera, who hosts Geraldo at Large on Fox News Channel and wrote a book entitled: 'HisPanic: Why Americans fear Hispanics in the U.S., was a panelist and guest speaker on Tuesday during a Greater Houston Partnership luncheon along with U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D.-Houston.

According to the Chronicle, "a vocal, pro-immigrant advocate and frequent foil to commentator Bill O'Reilly. Rivera was greeted by about 15 protestors outside the Hyatt Regency Houston, where he spoke. The protestors from local anti-illegal immigrant organizations carried signs opposing illegal immigration and called Rivera a 'traitor.'"

JoAnn McCracken, 70, a member of Texans for Immigration Reform, which advocates for stricter immigration laws, said, "he is so pro-illegal (immigrant)." She primarily expressed concern with the burden to taxpayers since they provide substantial government support to illegal immigrants.

Nonetheless, Mr. Rivera claimed the tone of the immigration debate has caused severe repercusions to the Hispanic community at large.

Mr. Rivera is quoted as saying, "we have created a slanderous condition and environment in our country, where the 46 million of us who have Latino roots now feel beleagured, now feel besieged, now feel as if we are 'the other.'"

As reported by the Chronicle, "Rivera called for President Barack Obama to end worksite enforcement raids. He also said the Obama administration should better define guidelines for the federal government's 287(g) program, which deputizes local law enforcement to act as immigration agents."

Simple solution. Enforce the border laws, and the citizens will no longer have cause for any such so-called "slander" and Geraldo can go back to speculating about Al Capone's bricked up "stash"...which was also an empty issue.

The issue is clearly IN THE HANDS OF THE US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. WHEN THEY DO RIGHT, THE CITIZENS WILL HUSH.

The only unpleasant debate "tone" has to do with illegals, the reasons they are hurting our economy, and the insults to our country over their breaking our laws.

We keep hearing, "they only want a better life". But, most of these people had jobs in Mexico, so violating our borders is all about MORE money.

Most of us want "better lives". But, fortunately, most of us are not willing to break the law to get them.

Geraldo needs to look at the police officers killed in Dallas, Houston, and other Texas cities by illegal aliens, and recognize that the "tone" they have foisted upon us is one of violence, lawlessness, drugs, diseases, and robbing our welfare and public assistance funds to the point of bankruptcy.

Go home! Get in line! Come back legally, or don't come back!

Fox still hires Rivera, who committed an act of treason by broadcasting US battle plans while embedded with the troops in the early days of the Iraq War? Who then claimed to be broadcasting from the Iraq "front lines" when in fact the military had sent him back to Kuwait because of said treason?

That says more about Fox than Rivera.
