According to the Washington Times, "Mr. crist's opponent for the Republican Party's nomination next year is former state Speaker of the House Marco rubio, a young conservative running on cutting government spending and taxes who recently met here with Club for Growth, which has a strong reputation for defeating liberal and moderate Republicans in party primaries with its aggressive ad campaigns." David Keating, the club's executive director, is quoted as saying, "we recently interviewed Marco Rubio and were impressed. We are very concerned about the two major tax increases Charlie Crist recently signed and believe there's no excuse for his active suport of the Obama big-government 'stimulus' spending bill." "There's not a set timeline for endorsement, but we look forward to completing our research on his record and that of his opponent, as well as our assessment of the competitiveness of the race before making a decision." Mr. Rubio is relatively unrecognizable among the state's voters, and the most recent head-to-head polls show the popular governor with a substantial lead over him. Yet the party's base is very conservative, and the Rubio campaign contends that in a state that has no income tax, Mr. Crist will be vulnerable on tax and fiscal topics the moment his actions become more widely known. The Washington Times quotes Alex Burgos, chief spokesman for the Rubio campaign, as saying, "there are stark differences between the candidates on fiscal issues. The governor signed a budget on May 27 that included $800 million in fee increases and a $1-per-pack cigarette tax increase." written by Ned Brown , June 29, 2009 The Club for Growth is right to oppose new or higher taxes. Americans are being taxed too much already. We need fewer and lower taxes, and less (and less intrusive, and better run and managed and more efficient, and more responsive) government; and we need to limit the role of government to its traditional role in American life and society. If the OBAMAISTAS think different, then let them go to Russia or China or Cuba or someo ther COMMIE enclave : and let them see how "happy" they may (or may not) be once they get there..... A conservative anti-tax organization, the Club for Growth, has considered sponsoring ads in the Republican Party's Senate primary campaign against Florida Gov. Charlie Crist for endorsing higher state taxes and President Barack Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus spending package.
