The Daily Telegraph of London reports that, “the singer, who was raised a Jehovah’s Witness, converted to Islam in a ceremony at a friend’s house in Los Angeles. He is said to have sat on the floor and worn a small hat while an imam officiated.” The Sun claims that the ceremony took place while Jackson, 50, was recording an album at the house of Steven Porcaro, a keyboard player who composed music for his ‘Thriller’ album. The former star of the Jackson 5 was counselled by David Wharnsby, a songwriter from Canada, and Phillip Bubal, a producer, who have both converted to Islam. A source revealed that Jackson had seemed a “bit down” and noted, “they began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better peopleafter they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea. An imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through a shahada, which is the muslim declaration of belief. His brother Jermaine Friday insinuated the previous year that Michael would convert after taking an interest in Islam after Friday’s conversion in 1989. The Telegraph quotes Friday as saying at that time, “when I come back from Mecca, I got him a lot of books and he asked me a lot of things about my religion and I told him that it’s peaceful and beautiful. He read everything and he was proud of me that I found something that would give me inner strength and peace. I think it is most probable that michael will convert to Islam. He could do so much, just like I am trying to do. Michael and I and the word of God, we could do so much.” To read the entire article from the Daily Telegraph of London, link here:

written by furrpiece , June 27, 2009 It appears Islam didn't sever Mr. Jackson well; not to mention long. I'm unclear on this: How does Islam handle drug abuse, child abuse, misogyny, cross-gendered confusion, and rampant narcissism? Just curious.

written by Austin , June 27, 2009 Four days now since Governor Sanford's admission of adultery, complete with new allegations of using state funds to pay for his trysts, more calls for him to resign - and no mention of the story here. How very different from the multiple stories about governors Spitzer and Blogoivich. Oh, wait, they were democrats. Never mind..........

written by Steve Heath , June 27, 2009 Obviously Michael jackson was weird and kind of a nut, but a lot of singers and entertainers are. I don't think Michael Jackson molested anyone. An all white jury in california apparently agreed with my assessment by their verdict in 2005. By his own admission he hugged and kissed children, had some of them sleep in his room and in his giant sized bed. Sounds more like a giant slumber party environment. He certainly used poor judgment. I slept with my two youngest kids in a tent at Tyler state park this past weekend. I guess that makes me suspect in some people's minds. About 3 years ago I saw Thomas Mesereau speak to a local African-American group in Dallas. I introduced myself to him at the reception afterwards and spoke with him for a while. He is a first rate attorney of the highest integrity --One of the most decent, genuine, substantive and impressive persons I have ever met. He told me Jackson was one of the best clients he ever had -decent, listened to everything he said, followed his advice without reservation and cooperated fully with the utmost integrity and honesty. Meseraeu had replaced Geragos who who been conducted a trial by media, responding to the daily lurid allegations and innuendo that the national media was putting out on an almost daily basis in the weeks leading up to the trial. When Mesereau was retained, he stopped this strategy. Mesereau had spent a couple of weeks getting to know the people of Santa Barbara, meeting them in local coffee shops and areas where people congregated. He told Michael that from his experiences he was convinced that 12 Santa Barbara citizens would give him a fair trial. Michael agreed and the media campaign ended. They tried their case, the prosecution witnesses were discredited for what they apparently were - opportunists trying to extort money -and Jackson was found not guilty on all counts. I read up on this case, as well as the 1993 case where jackson paid a large pre-trial settlement. After reading up on the 1993 case, I seriously doubt Jackson did anything wrong -other than exercise very poor judgment. Had Mesereau represented him then, rather than a team of egomaniac lawyers who couldn't agree on anything and were all grandstanding to promote themselves, I don't believe jackson would have paid any settlement. There's always another side to the story, and the mainstream media failed to give us all the facts about the 1993 case- just as they have failed to do so now in the various documentaries I have seen since his death. I may be wrong on some counts, but I will continue to believe that Michael Jackson, while strange and bizarre, was a very kind, generous and decent human being, who was not given a fair shake by the national media and who in many ways was victimized and wronged, rather than being the predator and pedophile that so many seem to have blindly accepted. I hope that in the final months of his life that his conversion to Islam (if true) brought him some peace and prepared him for his final journey to meet his Maker. I am very saddened by his death, and I and my children will say some special prayers for the soul of Michael Jackson, as well as for his family. Write comment

Reportedly, Michael Jackson had become Muslim and changed his name to Mikaeel shortly before his untimely death.
