Are Mexico's Drug Cartels Basing Operations in Irving? PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Tue, Apr 28, 2009, 05:11 PM

The affluent neighborhood of Las Colinas in Irving, Texas, is one of the first-planned communities in the United States of America. Some Dallas residents consider Las Colinas to be the 'Highland Park' of Irving, where wealthy and influential families dwell. Yet, Las Colinas may also be home to a dirty secret.

The Dallas Blog has conducted an investigative report to determine whether Mexico's drug cartels are covertly operating in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It has been revealed that quite possibly Irving is the base of operations for the cartels in the North Texas region, since it is centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth.

A notable fact about Las Colinas is that numerous wealthy families from Mexico reside in the neighborhood. Researching local property records does prove that true. Many of these families lead respectable lived and perform their financial transactions in a legal, ethical and honest manner.

Nonetheless, one Las Colinas resident revealed that some families have 'black sheep' relatives in Mexico who are deeply involved in drug cartel operations. This source explained that the northern Mexico state of Durango is a hotbed for the catels' leaders and their internationally-linked criminal activities. Allegedly, these bosses in Durango stay in constant communication with people in Irving to spread their criminal organization across the country.

Other sources, who also wish to remain anonymous for safety reasons, have revealed that a non-descript Mexican restaurant, which is a few minutes drive from the Irving Mall, is a special location for weekly local-area crime summits every Saturday night.

Yet, those sources also explained that this particular eating facility is family owned and they unwillingly, due to threats of violence, permitted these alleged crime bosses to gather there. in the interest of the family's safety, the name of the location will not be publicly revealed. However, the Dallas Blog was able to confirm the address and phone number of the restaurant and performed a mapquest, which determined that the Irving Mall resides just a few miles away.

According to a restaurant review on a google search engine, it is described as a "hole-in-the-wall" dive, but each Saturday evening it hosts a glamorous event where alleged Mexican crime bosses drive into the ordinary parking lot in their luxury-made automobiles and dress in elegant attire, mostly in fancy suits. They meet to discuss so-called problems and how to resolve them while playing cards.

Knowledgeable sources claim that the alleged cartel leaders are locally involved in kidnapping wealthy Mexican citizens living here, drug and gun-running, as well as extortion rackets. The sources use the term "setas" when referring to Mexico's drug cartels. At the weekly crime summit, the "setas" conspire future criminal activities and assign hit men to kill anyone they perceive as a threat.

Hence, this undisclosed restaurant could be deemed the unofficial headquarters for Mexico's drug cartels in the DFW metroplex.

Perhaps, Dallas-area residents may be shocked to learn about the alleged drug cartel presence in the upwardly middle-class town of Irving. Yet, after listening to numerous people, claiming to have inner-knowledge of the Mexican crime ring in Texas, their coinciding stories seem plausible. Irving is not a flashy suburb, so cartel bosses can live there without bringing too much attention to their nefarious presence.

"Investigative report?" You're kidding, right? Really?

So, to recap, you have "one Las Colinas resident (unidentified of course), "other sources who wish to remain anonymous," and "knowledgeable sources", none on the record or willing to go on the record (if the exist at all, which we have no reason to believe they do based on this report) and no corroboration on the record. You talk about a "non-descript Mexican restaurant," (I'm guessing so that the restaurant doesn't sue you for slander and defamation) that all these rumors "seem plausible."

The only thing I find shocking is the actual publication of this rumor-based, non-sourced gossip piece as "investigative reporting."

No surprise, considering illegal aliens reside here with impunity, cartel members would blend right in. In terms of local level enforcement, Irving's immigration checks at the city jail just ain't cut'n it.

It was just a matter of time.

Shocking but I guess it should not be a surprise.

"With impunity?"

Get a grip. Better yet, get over your racial and nationalistic bias.

If not in Irving, does anyone doubt the drug cartels may have bases in major American cities? Dallas would be very convenient. Why attack the author of this article? Are you critical because the "anonymous sources" wish to remain anonymous?

HSH: It was my understanding that the Mexican restaurant didn't willingly offer to host the Saturday night meetings. I was going to publish the name of the restaurant until that piece of information was given to me.

Why if everyone else knows about this so-called "meeting place" did the Irving Police not do something about it earlier? Irving has become a disgrace, one comment was get over your racist views, if "those people who are so concerned about the racist, why don't they get over their "macho" attitude of the more kids I have, the more man I am. Go back to Mexico or wherever you came from, if you are treated so unfairly. You get most things free, live in rampant luxury as compared to most Mexican cities, and you are complaining. Police need to be more vigilant, not less of these groups
