Janet Nylund and Lillie Young, co-chairs of the 2009 AWARE luncheon benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association, announce that United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison will be the keynote speaker at the Thursday, April 9th luncheon at the Hilton Anatole - Chantilly Ballroom.
The co-chairs agree: “This year the Alzheimer’s Association is Celebrating 20 Years of Progress and we are thrilled to welcome fellow Texan, Senator Hutchison, as keynote speaker to celebrate this landmark event. As the recipient of the Alliance for Aging Research, Distinguished Public Service Award in 2004 and voted as the Forbes Magazine’s 2005 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, amongst her many awards, Senator Hutchison will bring an empathetic and educated message to luncheon attendees.”

Joining Senator Hutchison and the co-chairs at the Dallas luncheon will be Harry Johns, CEO of the Alzheimer's Association and Karen Dealy, president, Alzheimer’s Association-Dallas chapter.

A special feature will be the presentation of the Nancy R. McCune Research Award to Dr. Berislav Zlokovic, M.D., Ph.D.  The award, given annually to a scientist for outstanding advances in the field of Alzheimer’s research, is named for Nancy R. McCune, whose family has commemorated her long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease with the naming of this award in her honor.

We are also pleased to welcome back Karen Borta and Tracy Rowlett as luncheon emcees, recipients of the AWARE Volunteer of the Year Award in 2008.

On April 9th, the reception begins at 10:00 a.m., including silent auction bidding. Luncheon begins at 11:45 a.m. Open to the public by reservation only. Pricing begins at $150 per person and underwriting and sponsorships are available.

United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison

In 1993, Texans elected Kay Bailey Hutchison to the United States Senate in a special election, making her the first—and, to date, the only—woman elected to represent the state in the Senate. One year later, she was re-elected to a full six-year term. And in 2000, more than four million Texans voted for her re-election to a second full term—no other Texas candidate has ever captured more votes. In 2006, she was again re-elected by an overwhelming margin. She serves in the Senate leadership, having been elected by her colleagues to be chairman of the Republican Policy Committee in the 110th Congress, making her the

fourth-highest ranking Republican senator.

A.W.A.R.E. (Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Resources and Education) is a support organization of the Greater Dallas Chapter and shares the same purposes as the Chapter.  Proceeds from the annual luncheon and other projects help fund Alzheimer's education, research, support and guidance for the Alzheimer's families in the Chapter's service area and political advocacy for medical, social and financial needs of families.

Since its inception in 1987, AWARE has become a powerful fundraising organization promoting Alzheimer's awareness and financial support for its parent organization, the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Dallas Chapter, raising over $6.5 million.
