The Dallas Morning News reported on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 that Mr. Watkins visited Clay Academy in Dallas in the morning and spoke only to African-American students, even though the school boasts of a racially-diverse student body. According to the GreatSchools.net website, Clay Academy' s student ethnicity is composed of: “56% White, not Hispanic; 43% Black, not Hispanic and 1% Hispanic.”Liz Ford of the DMN wrote, "Watkins, the first black district attorney in Texas, told the children that they, too, could be leaders. Frequently pausing to chat with the students, all of whom were black, he cited Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama as important agents of change in America.”Apparently, Mr. Watkins believes he has an obligation to make an extra effort to inspire African-American students, but he doesn' t feel equally determined to help students from different cultural backgrounds. He is quoted as telling the all-black audience, “make sure you’re ready for whatever opportunities present themselves to you,” but he failed to deliver the same message to non African-American students at Clay Academy, which happens to be a privately-run Christian school.D.A. Watkins often speaks about "getting smart on crime” when he attends numerous public events. Yet, is he “getting smart on the race issue” by only speaking to black students whenever he visits a school? Lest one forget, the United States Supreme Court abolished racial segregation at educational institutions a few decades ago by ruling it unconstitutional. To read the entire article from the Dallas Morning News, link here: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

written by wtf , February 27, 2009 This article implies that the DA determined who was going to be present in that classroom when he spoke. The title implies that he excluded non-blacks from hearing him speak. That is utterly stupid and ridiculous Tom Mcgregor. When you are invited to speak at an event at a school you have no idea what students are going to be presnt for the speech. If this is remotely accurate, this is clearly a decision made by the school. I would assume that the school decided to allow as mnay kids that they could to hear the DA speak, but it was the school, not the DA, who determined which kids could attend. If the school decided to let all of the black students hear Mr. Watkins because of space limitations then that is the school's decision. I don't think Mr. Watkins walked in and saw non-black students and excluded them. Again Tom, your banter is amazingly negative and gives a serious false impression.

written by Byron George , February 27, 2009 Jim, to answer your question, Jonathan thinks everything is slanderous, filled with lies and attacks if you happen to disagree with him. Stick around this blog long enough and you will find that JG is the biggest racist in Dallas county. And this is about the 15 time that JG has said that he is through with this blog.

written by texgerl , February 28, 2009 It is a rule of any politician that when a meeting is approved, it is arranged by his secretary and associates. The school has enough room for all the kids. The secretary and the school principal made the arrangement. The secretary does not have a free hand!!!

written by Glad2beGone , March 01, 2009 However, is ther any indication DA Watkins, upon seeing an all-black audience, expressed any dismay or unwillingness to speak, or even inquire as to why at a racially-diverse school there were only black kids in his audience? Watkins loves to say he represents "all of Dallas County." Oh really? Will a real candidate run against him in 2010? PLEASE????
