Sen. John Cornyn of Texas has been named head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee to lead Senate Republicans' attempted comeback in 2010. With a couple of Senate seats still in doubt from this year's election, Democrats have a strong majority with 58 seats of 100 seats. Cornyn will be in charge of raising money and recruiting Senate candidates for 2010. His appointment comes as Texas' clout in Washington diminishes with George W. Bush leaving the White House.
Meanwhile, Texas' other Republican senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison, has given up her fourth-ranking post in the Senate leadership as chair of the Republican Policy Committee to prepare to run for governor in the 2010 election. Questions remain as to whether she will resign from the Senate, as has been speculated, in 2009. Hutchison could hold onto her seat while running for governor.
Ugh. Why couldn't Texans turn this one out with the rest? Those sanctimonious commercials with him out talking to cows about how he is all about getting things done in Washington and working together. All he's ever done is carry water for Bush and be the partisan hack he is. What will he do now that Bush is gone?
