Brian K. Walker, the Republican challenging Rep. Chuck Hopson (D-Jacksonville) for the HD 11 seat, announced today that he will be filing an election recount petition with the Texas Secretary of State.
"I am honored by the extraordinary support I have received and appreciate the message for conservative change that East Texas voters sent on election day. Since that time, I have received hundreds of calls encouraging me to ask for a recount in order to make sure that every vote is counted" Walker said.
"There are credible reports that ballots cast by registered voters were improperly rejected and not counted on election day so we are asking for a recount to make sure that all of the voices of East Texas voters are heard. My opponent and I disagree on many issues, but I am sure we can agree that this process must be transparent and thorough until every vote is counted," Brian Walker continued "and true to our message of conservative and limited government, taxpayers can rest assured that our campaign will cover the costs associated with the recount."
The Secretary of State's website gives Hopson a 102-vote Election Night edge out of nearly 53,000 cast. The Libertarian candidate, Paul Bryan, got 872.
Go for it, Brian. As the DEMS are so fond of saying, every vote counts. So get the recount and let's see what happens. It surely will not hurt to let every vote count correctly in your race.
