Book Recounts Misogynist Side of John Lennon PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Oct 13, 2008, 11:49 AM

At home, John Lennon didn’t give peace a chance where he viciously abused and routinely tormented the women closest to him.

The New York Post reports that, “the music legend was prone to unprovoked acts of cruelty, jealous rage and perverse sexual fantasies, according to the new tell-all “John Lennon: The Life” by Beatles biographer Philip Norman.”

Yoko Ono contributed extensively and even convinced son Sean Lennon to speak to the author, Norman. But she now believes that the portrait is so damning that she panned the book as “too mean.”

On Thursday, Beatles’ fans flocked to Strawberry Fields in Central Park in New York City to celebrate what would have been Lennon’s 68th birthday. Yet, they may want to stay away from the expose that chronicles his callous treatment of Yoko, the physical and verbal abuse of his two sons, and his chronic infidelities.

Norman recounts the moment when Cynthia, Lennon’s first wife, discovered his affair with Yoko. She found John and Yoko seated on the floor together in matching bathrobes when Cynthia returned from a vacation in Greece to her home in England.

According to the NY Post, “when they first began dating, Lennon forced Yoko to write down a list of men she slept with so he could pore over the names, treating each like a ‘mortal enemy.’”

Lennon insisted Yoko accompany him to studio sessions, which was a famously big no-no to the band, who had kept their studio off-limits to lovers. He insisted she follow him everywhere even to the men’s bathroom.

Yoko is quoted as telling Norman, “people said I followed him to the men’s room, but she made me go with him. He thought that if he left me alone with other Beatles even for a minute, I might go off with one of them.”
