Larry Hagman Thrilled about 30th “Dallas” Reunion PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Fri, Oct 10, 2008, 06:00 PM

Ironically, Larry Hagman was reluctant to star on a new TV show called “Dallas” when he first read the script in the late 1970s assuming there wouldn’t be any money in it.

Yet, his wife convinced him to play the role of a conniving oil baron and cattle rancher J.R. Ewing, saying they might “renegotiate,” and it could eventually pay-off.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, “it did, eventually earning him a reported $100,000 or more per episode. And now fans from across the world are paying as much as $1,000 a piece to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the debut of what became one of the most popular prime-time soap operas in TV history.”

J.R., Bobby, Sue Ellen and other Ewing kin will mark the anniversary on Nov. 8 with a reunion and barbecue at Southfork Ranch. The ranch is located in the Dallas suburb of Parker, about 25 miles north of downtown Dallas.

Fans from Japan, Australia, Europe, and across the United States plan to spen $100 to $1,000 for the tickets. Those who pay more will gain grater access to cast members including Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy.

Included with the barbecue, there will be country music, dancing fireworks and a laser light show.

According to the Chronicle, “given the various story lines and characters in each hour-long episode, Hagman saw Dallas as more of a cartoon and ‘had fun with it,’ he said. The native Texan who grew up in Weatherford, west of Fort Worth, said he patterned J.R.’s twang, persona and family views after a successful businessman he worked for in high school who supplied oil drilling equipment.”

ElHombre: This bothers me. It bothers me a lot. I have previously posted under various news pieces. Under these pieces it always been hit or miss if my comment will actually appear here on Dallasblog.

The most recent was a response of mine in which I replied to someone stating that Obama had no experience typing about how Obama has had more experience that Ronald Reagan if not more so. I mean Reagan's only experience was eight years as a governor, while Obama has eleven years experience in the legislator and on top of that he has his time as a constitutional scholar.

These posts have not been posted no matter their validity. I'll repost this until it actually sees the light of day, but after that I would like to say goodbye Dallasblog. You have censored me when I make valid points. Enjoy your right wing circle jerk, but know that I have made valid points even if you have chosen to ignore them.

I used to work with Hagman's brother Gary - before he got disbarred - who was frequently asked what Larry was REALLY like. His standard answer was to refer back to the role Hagman played on "I Dream Of Jeanie". That was pretty much him, in character and out.

Looks like election data got into a blog about Dallas and Southfork. Please put it back on another burner.
