In an unhealthy development on the campaign trail, the John McCain camp is whipping up a feeding frenzy of anger among the GOP candidate's supporters. The Washington Post has a story today headlined "Anger Is Crowd's Overarching Emotion at McCain Rally" in Wisconsin. Here's an excerpt: There were shouts of "Nobama" and "Socialist" at the mention of the Democratic presidential nominee. There were boos, middle fingers turned up and thumbs turned down as a media caravan moved through the crowd. A talk show host stirred up the crowd by mentioning the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Democrat Barack Obama's former pastor, and "other shady characters" around Obama and said, to McCain: "I'm begging you. Take it to him." A crowd of thousands shouted its approval. V.P. candidate Sarah Palin stoked the anger against the media. The Post also has a story today about how a PR consultant helped Palin grab the national spotlight that led up to her being chosen as McCain's runningmate.

written by lee , October 10, 2008 This should not be a surprise to anyone who writes a column or posts a comment that opposes the far right, evangelical crowd. It seems to me that hate is not a Christian value and these people claim to be Christians, just not my kind of Christians. My wife heard a Park Cities oil man refer to Obama as a "Marxist." It comes in varying degrees of disagreement and hate.

written by Boo , October 10, 2008 There have been worse than that. There have been shouts accussing Obama of being a terrorists, and calls for his death. Reporters covering these speeches have also been threatened. One CNN reporter described a McCain supporter telling him to 'meet me outside'. Another black sound man was called a racial slur, and then told to 'sit down, boy'. You don't even need to look beyond to see that. I mean on this blog even RelicMM has called Obama Satan's "messianic" ambassador, and claimed that anyone voting for Obama should be charged with treason. Here's a link. Seventh post down: http://www.dallasblog.com/2008...oints.html McCain and Palin have no excuse for not being aware of these acts at this point. All they have to do is stop, turn to the crowd and say 'no, we do not condone this kind of behavior. If you continue to act this way you can leave'. Instead the inflammatory speeches have continued, and the McCain campaign has continued to do it's best to ignore this behavior. Also, the Dow Jones is down another 105 points today. Distracting from this with hate and anger is bad for everyone in this nation.

written by Layne , October 10, 2008 You've got to be kidding, after 7 years of democrats demanding George Bush be executed for war crimes, not to mention the constant accusations of racism and warmongering and countless other insults that every Republican has hurled at them every day, you're going to complain about Republicans being angry? There have even been movies made by liberals glorifying the assassination of Bush, and on top of that there's the outright hatred of Sarah Palin by democrats. Just do some googling or look on youtube and you'll see that hatred for her demonstrated over and over and it all comes from democrats. Jesus you people are pathetic, while you're wallowing in your hypocrisy read this - http://www.city-journal.org/2008/eon1009jl.html

written by Percy St. Clair , October 10, 2008 This is not an "unhealthy development". OBAMA is a deceitful guy who is not telling the truth to America about who he is, or about what he plans to do if elected, or about his ties to Hard-Lefties and unpatriotic characters. It is time for America to demand the truth from Obama, and time for Obama and his camp to tell the truth. It is good that many people in America are waking up to the Obama deceit.... We do not need a fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez "pal" in our White House, nor do we need in our White House a person who "pals around" with traitors and terrorists, and we do not need to pander to Obama when he is not telling the truth.

written by maximus , October 11, 2008 Question: When did the truth become a dangerous thing? Answer: When conservatives have the gall to utter it. Don't conservatives know that in Carolyn's world they're supposed to shut up, smile, and surrender their nation to a proven socialist like Obama?

written by Boo , October 11, 2008 And a bit more on topic. Has anyone else taken the time to read the article Ms Barta posted about how Governor Palin hired a PR agent to get her name out in the VP race? It's pretty revealing.

written by jb , October 11, 2008 One has to admit that handing over the country to a man who promises to change the world for the better but could not even manage to improve the scores of the Chicago school system despite showering $160,000,000 on the project is enough to make anyone sputter with frustration. Then, there is that little thing about promising to give a tax cut to 95% of Americans when 40% don't even pay taxes. Oh, and did I mention the class warfare? And, add to that, his connection to Acorn and promotion of politically correct lending practices to ensure that even those who have never saved a nickle could purchase $500,000 homes in the name of "equalizing outcomes" through intimidation of financial institutions...hmmmmmmmmmm. Oh, and there is those long associations with haters such as Ayers and Wright et al, which is bad enough, but then there is the incessant lying about those same associations. The American people have a right to be mad over the fact that social engineering has taken out entire economic system down. We have all seen our life savings go up in smoke on the altar of bad ideas.

written by dt , October 11, 2008 This is not being "whipped up" by the McCain campaign. The anger is not coming from above. It is coming from below. This means it is real. Boo talks about hate and anger distracting from real problems. Kind of like the manufactured hatred of and anger at Bush distracting from the war on terror, I guess.

written by ElHombre , October 11, 2008 Let's face it, folks. The Right has nothing left to offer. Their social ideas are being rejected by folks who just don't want others judging the private lives of themselves or others. Their ideas on foreign policy (summed up by the phrase, 'Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out') have been drowned in the blood of thousands across the Middle East. Their economic ideas have just done a 180 and are now attempting to turn the US into the old USSR (thankfully actual economists have stopped Paulson and his crew). As the character of Howard Beale in the film 'Network' said, "I just ran out of bull****". That hate is the only thing that keeps them from actually admitting they've made a mistake.

written by Boo , October 11, 2008 ElHombre: This bothers me. It bothers me a lot. I have previously posted under various news pieces. Under these pieces it always been hit or miss if my comment will actually appear here on Dallasblog. The most recent was a response of mine in which I replied to someone stating that Obama had no experience typing about how Obama has had more experience that Ronald Reagan if not more so. I mean Reagan's only experience was eight years as a governor, while Obama has eleven years experience in the legislator and on top of that he has his time as a constitutional scholar. These posts have not been posted no matter their validity. I'll repost this until it actually sees the light of day, but after that I would like to say goodbye Dallasblog. You have censored me when I make valid points. Enjoy your right wing circle jerk, but know that I have made valid points even if you have chosen to ignore them.
...
written by Austin , October 11, 2008 Boo, I am sorry to hear that your valid points have been censored, esp in light of the "acceptable" posts from Byron George about how the Obama campaign is responsible for the stock market collapse (even the ones overseas, presumably). If that is valid, what is invalid?

written by Byron George , October 11, 2008 Its BHO's fault. Just having a little fun with my liberal friends. I have heard this from the Bush haters for 8 years. Looks like I get to post it for the next 4.

written by ElHombre , October 11, 2008 There's a bit of a difference, Byron. We have backed up our assertions with hard facts. Anyone who doesn't look at the history of the Bush admin and doesn't get mad about the damage they've done seriously needs to get an education on reality.

written by Dan Carswell , October 11, 2008 Austin, the folks behind Obama are rejoicing in the collapse of stck markets, and the CHICOM who are the ultimate supporters and masters of Obama are most happy about it and are indeed rersponsible for at least some of it. As for comments above by "jb" and "dt", it looks to me like they are correct. Obama is as dangersous to liberty in the free world as Fidel and Hugo, and he is part and parcel of the same cabal to which those two well-known "Commies" belong".
...
written by michael a. , October 11, 2008 Yes Byron, and just like you've blamed everything that's happened the past eight years on Clinton, we'll continue to blame Bush.
...
written by ElHombre , October 12, 2008 Dan Carswell, the next time you come back from a McCain/Palin rally, have yourself a good, stiff drink before publicly saying anything. It'll help settle your nerves and will hopefully prevent you from posting something dumb.
...
written by Dan Carswell , October 12, 2008 El Hombre : Take a closer look at the Obama campaign, and at Obama : don't be fooled by slick, phony rhetoric from the far left. While I am very appreciative that you are so concerned about me, I am terribly concerened about YOU ! If you are too ill informed to see the connection between the CHICOM and some of the wild Hard-Lefties in American politics (like Obama, and also Hillary, who are both from the Chicago "school" of Chicom influenced communism) then you need to go back to the primary school of politics. Now, may I settle down for a little libation (your suggestion, I think) while you do your "homework"?

written by byx , October 12, 2008 Dan, POST IT. Show me more than some innuendo, please. Neither of these guys are adequately discussing the debt we're racking up, or how we'll pay for it. You know what? SOMEONE, maybe ALL OF US, are going to have to pay some actual TAXES to get this S**t off the books. There is no 'ctrl-alt-del' in this debacle. T Boone has it right - we've shuttled our wealth out to other places in the world, and they're loathe to give it back. They no longer have needs for things we supply. Dan, you're going to have to accept that a degree of control in markets is not the end of the world. You're going to have to accept that a lot more of your Neocon buddies are responsible for our punching of the tar baby in the Middle East than anyone on the Left. You're going to have to accept that RW pursuit-of-wealth-at-any-cost has left the rest of us performing triage on the environment and the culture. Lefties, you're going to have to accept that government can't solve everything, and they don't need to stick their hands in all aspects of life. You're going to have to accept that the top-down process of public administration for things like education have REALLLY failed (oh yeah, this IS the Dallasblog, right?) You'll have to accept that you're just as responsible for pork-barrel politics as the RW are. Face it - everyone wants their town, their city, their state - to have the best of everything. And they don't want to have to pay for it. Obama is NOT a Commie, and McCain Palin are NOT RW idealogues hell-bent on putting women back in the kitchen, taking America to war over every perceived diplomatic affront, and throwing the Mexicans completely back over the border, regardless of the consequences. Palin may believe she needs to visit the museum in Glen Rose every other week, but neither one of them are sprouting horns. Obama is not a Muslim terrorist. McCain is not assuming a 'Divine Right of Kings' ascension to the throne. Let's settle down, step out of the Octagon, and start looking at how to fix this mess, rather than continue to point fingers or spread hate. Some rabbi over at the Texas Jewish Post (don't ask me how I found this page on the street), likened hatred of another man to idol worship, and you know, it rings true. I was pretty full of hate for Bush II, and it spread to some blanket discrimination on my part in 2004 and 2006, and look at what it got us, some less-qualified office holders in Dallas County. But it also got rid of some experienced, dyed-in-the-wool weeds of the political machine that is this city. Your side is not always right, and neither is my side. If you idealogues would just shut up, sit back, and pan your view a bit, I think you'd understand that there ARE ways to make this city, this county, this state, this region, and this state, better places to live, work, and succeed, and not at the cost of so much vitriol or waste or hatred of the 'other'. Grow up - all of you. Show some responsibility and go pick up some trash at Cole Park without expecting some Mexican or Negro to do it for you. Drive the speed limit. Stop at Stop Signs. Get off the cell phone. Support the WRL area. Hug a cyclist. BECOME a cyclist. Quit spreading the hate. It's idol worship, and it's really unproductive. I'm off my soapbox now. Gotta go walk to the Apple Store.
