The presidential campaign took a nasty turn over the weekend with VP candidate Sarah Palin leading the charge as McCain's pit bull. "The heels are on, the gloves are off," Palin said. She charged that Obama "pals around with terrorists," noting an association with former William Ayers of the Weather Underground. A TV ad launched today by the McCain camp and reported by politico.com calls Obama "dishonorable" and "too risky," citing comments Obama has made about Afghanistan. Palin has been repeating those comments in recent appearances. Obama responded with a Web video about McCain's role in the Keating Five scandal in the early 1990s. Obama surrogates fired back on Sunday talk shows and on ABC's Good Morning America on Monday, shining the light on McCain's association with Charles Keating, a savings and loan owner convicted of securities fraud. As for Obama, he said the McCain campaign is resorting to "swiftboat-style attacks," a reference to unsubstantiated allegations about 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry's military record in Vietnam. He says the McCain camp is trying to distract voters from the economic crisis. Here's the AP story.

written by Old Red , October 06, 2008 Good for Obama. And what a contrast to Kerry, who didn't respond to the smears about him and didn't take them seriously. All that did was make him look weak and indecisive. Barack instead is a veteran of Chicago politics and knows how to fight fire with fire. Bring it on....

written by Byron George , October 06, 2008 Ok, Monday morning. Time to stir the pot. Did any democrats on this blog watch Hannity's special on Obama and can you refute anything that was said? Spar me the "Hate Hannity" etc., question is did you watch and can you refute anything said?

written by Old Red , October 06, 2008 Never mind the economy, Iraq, the deficit, factory closings, the price of gas, or unemployment, what the voters REALLY care about right now is...Rev Wright and William Ayers. Or so Karl Rove would have us believe.

written by HSH , October 06, 2008 On Saturday, there was a long, thorough above-the-fold-with-pictures article on Sen. Obama's "relationship" with William Ayres. I suggest all of you find that article and read it. Gov. Palin, since she reads "all of them" should have already read that article and knows that what she is claiming is not truthful. Sen. McCain's campaign has said clearly that they are going to turn to trying to smear Sen. Obama, since arguing the issues and positions is not working for them. Shame on McCain. I used to like this guy, but no more.

written by Byron George , October 06, 2008 HSH, Smears aside..Does it bother you that Obama is considered the most liberal member of Congress?
...
written by Old Red , October 06, 2008 Funny how the title of "most liberal member of Congress" has gone to Gore, then Kerry, then Hillary, then Obama. It is almost as if the title attaches to EVERY democrat who dare to run for president. Or is that just a coincidence?
...

written by michael a. , October 06, 2008 I hope Obama brings it all on: McCant, Sindy, and Keating5, Phil and Wendy Grahm and financial deregulation and Enron, Palin and Troopergate and her whack preacher with the witch doctor laying hands on her...all of it. Lying bunch of hypocritical Republicans.

written by Brown Bess , October 06, 2008 OK, I'm starting my own "clock." It's now been 7 days since Obama took a sizable lead (4-11 points) in every major daily tracking poll. Today comes news that he's leading in Virginia and New Hampshire by 10, as well as in Florida and Nevada, and he's tied in Colo. These are states that were not supposed to be in danger of going Democratic. Palin was just campaigning in Omaha, meaning they're worried about the single Omaha congressional district Electoral Vote in Nebraska going blue. Yet, about these game-changing results in state and national polling, we've heard not a beep from DB. However, in the last week, we have seen the DB break the news that Hollywood and Homor Simpson back Obama. We've had reports for short lines for Springsteen concerts for Obama. We've had a ridiculous defense of Palin's performance in the debate (while every poll shows she lost badly) and a piece about a "conservative pledge to Texans" that was obsolete the moment it appeared on the screen. So, 7 days and counting. How long can the DB go without referring to the real state of the race? November 5th?

written by Byron George , October 06, 2008 HSH, This is a serious question. Do you agree with Obama on every issue, if not, I would like to know what they are? I'm a conservative and have made no bones about the fact that I disagree with McCain on most issues. Give me a reason or two why you think Obama is going to make America better.

written by Byron George , October 06, 2008 OK, does this bother any Obama supporters? Quote: Ahmed Yousuf (Hamas terror organization political organizer) "We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the election."

written by Byron George , October 06, 2008 No concerns here? Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan likened Obama to a new messiah, calling him "the hope of the entire world." That's the same Louis Farrakhan who has a history of making openly anti-Semitic statements, calling Judaism a "gutter religion," and suggesting that crack cocaine might have been a CIA plot to enslave blacks. He also compared Obama to the founder of Islam, remarking that both had a white mother and black father, according to the Associated Press. "A black man with a white mother became a savior to us," Farrakhan said. "A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall."

written by Austin , October 06, 2008 And the KKK once endorsed Ronald Reagan, Byron. What does that prove? If you going to make a case about Obama it needs to better than looking at what fringe groups have said about him.
...
written by HSH , October 06, 2008 Byron: The First Amendment applies to everyone, including Louis Farrakhan. Sen. Obama can't call him up and tell him to keep his mouth shut. If he did, you would go nuts because he called him. Sen. Obama has absolutely no connection to Louis Farrakhan. As to the spiritual leader of Hamas, he's also not within the care and control of Sen. Obama. If Osama Bin Laden released a video tomorrow campaigning for Sen. McCain, would you expect Sen. McCain to call him up and tell him to stop it? What about Hagey and all those crazy pastors who have endorsed McCain? What about the crazy Nigerian preacher who prayed over Sarah Palin to "protect her from witchcraft"? If you want to get into a silly debate about this, fine, let's go, but I think there are more pressing matters at hand. Your questions are absurd. No, I'm sure I don't completely agree with every single policy issue, statement, or position Sen. Obama has ever or will ever take, but I believe him to be a smart, honest, capable, pragmatic and strong leader, and I completely agree with his plans to take our country in a completely different direction. And I believe strongly he will do just that.

written by Layne , October 06, 2008 "And the KKK once endorsed Ronald Reagan, Byron. What does that prove?" Did Reagans church support the KKK? No, it didn't. written by michael a. , October 07, 2008 palin's church supports James dobson and flew in a witch doctor. They love Jews so much they tell them death by Palestinians is "judgement". Or you can pray your gay away like ted haggard, mark folley, or larry craig.
...
written by Byron George , October 07, 2008 Michael a., How about making a little sense here. "death by Palestinians is judgment." Where did you come up with that one. You shouldn't make fun of Christianity. In fact, maybe you should try it. It is good for the soul. Oh, I forgot. Anybody who disagrees with you is a racist, bigot, etc. Are you really old enough to be posting on a blog?
...
written by michael a. , October 07, 2008 Byron, the group "Jews for Jesus" was at Palin's church this past summer and their leader stated that when a Palestinian killed some Isralis with a bulldozer that it was God's judgement for the Jews. I am a Christian Byron. You'll be suprised to learn that Democrats can be Christian too. If I don't think a witch doctor laying hands on Palin and praying for her finances and for the witches to leave her is Christian or presidential then I'm sorry you don' t agree. Are you sure you have a high enough IQ to post on here?

written by HSH , October 07, 2008 Layne: You respond with a blog opinion piece that contains nothing but conjecture -- no facts whatsoever. To you that is "reporting"? I hate to be the one to have to disabuse you of the notion, but opinion writing is not reporting. I guess you skipped out on high school journalism class.
