Short Line for Springsteen Tickets at Obama Rally PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Fri, Oct 3, 2008, 10:21 AM

Today, an hour before Bruce Springsteen tickets was to be distributed for Monday’s free acoustic concert at Eastern Michigan University, only 20 people were in line.

The first fan came from Grand Rapids at 4:30 a.m. Brad Berry, 54, has seen Springsteen on 15 different occasions and saw Obama in Grand Rapids in May. He noted that he was alone until 6:30 when a second person appeared. They were standing alone until 7:30.

Ann Arbor News reports that, “all said they were shocked that so few people were in line. Bruce Springsteen will be the headliner at an Obama rally at Oestrike Stadium. He will be on the final leg of a three-state tour for the campaign’s voter registration efforts, and the rally will be on the final day to register to vote in Michigan.”

Those participants in line were split 50-50 about whether they were more excited about seeing Springsteen or to support Obama, but all claimed they were to some extent for both.

Berry expressed great excitement at the thought of combining artists with political movements. Those waiting in line had been told they could get two tickets per person, but they were disappointed when they saw a sign on the window that said each person would just get one ticket.

According to Ann Arbor News, “Springsteen is expected to play a 30-minute set, while urging concert-goers to get involved in the election. Gates open at 3 p.m. and the festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. The rally is expected to last one hour.”
