LA Times Takes an Unbiased Look at Palin PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Tue, Sep 30, 2008, 03:48 PM

Heading into Thursday’s vice presidential debate, Sarah Palin’s former aides and Alaskan political rivals recall the candidate’s jab-with-a-smile skillfulness and warn not to underestimate her.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “when she appeared for a candidate’s forum in front of a room filled with unionized Alaskan electrical workers during her run for governor in early October, 2006, Sarah Palin arrived woefully unprepared. When the union members grilled her on labor policy, Palin faltered.”

After the ordeal, a furious Palin cursed in anger and berated her staff, recalled two former senior campaign aides who blamed her unwillingness to bone up on workplace issues for the blunder.

Yet just a few weeks later, when Palin jousted with her two main rivals during crucial pre-election debates, she appeared much more at ease. She distilled policy questions into simple answers and countered her opponents’ criticisms with verbal stiletto thrusts delivered with a sunny smile.

During Palin’s brief exposure to the high-throttle environment of political debates, she has a tendency to unnerve her handlers as well as her opponents. On occasion, she has been handicapped by her lax approach to studying the nuances of policy and state issues, but she has also projected a Reaganesque quality to offer up pithy answers and charm on camera.

As reported by the LA Tmies, “Palin’s split-personality debate persona – mirrored both in her confident speech to the Republican convention in Minneapolis in early September and in a series of wobbly performances in recent television interviews – poses a challenge for her Democratic opponent, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, as each approaches Thursday’s nationally telecast vice presidential debate in St. Louis.

I hope she will do well.

Biden is a real loose cannon, with no real capability to serve as president or vice president. He is, at best, a wind bag and a goof ball. But Obama is even a worse prospect to lead our federal government.

I am praying that we may be delivered from these two characters [Biden and Obama] who are not going to lead our nation well or properly if they get elected.

JASON, why are you so crude in your merciloous criticism of Dan? Is it that you do not pray? Do you think it stupid to pray? Is that the fault you find with poor Dan?

For what it is worth, I too am praying that Obama and Biden do not get elected. I know many others who are also praying and asking God to deliver us from these ninnies. Do you think all of us are, to use your words, "dumb people"......

Palin inexperience is not in comparison to Sen Edwards who debated Dick Cheney four years ago. Cheney ate Edwards lunch! Palin is being criticize heavily by her own Republican party members. Vetted less than two months ago, she is no match for Joe Biden. It does not matter how well she speaks, she cannot be coached to obtained the knowledge and experience it takes to run this Country, and mess up more of what the Republican have screwed up. If this bill passes, McCain has a long way to reverse the upward momentum that has slid Obama's way. Yet, with what has happened the last eight years under the Republicans, I see this race as a landslide and America is going to speak Nov. 4 and it will not be about race, it will be about change!

"It does not matter how well she speaks, she cannot be coached to obtained the knowledge and experience it takes to run this Country"--You couldn't have phrased my opinion of Obama any better.

At any rate, Jonathan, I'm glad there's one thing about this election you don't consider racist.

Palin has a degree in Journalism but can't name a single magazine or even newspaper that she reads regularly?

Couple that with her inability to name a single Supreme Court case other than Roe v Wade and it becomes obvious why conservatives are calling for McCain to replace her.

I think with the recent crisis on Wall Street, it might be rather refreshing to have someone not corrupted by a bunch of stuff that means nothing!! That is the reason we have career advisors to feed info to the leaders who cannot absorb every little detail!
