Employees of the Dallas County Sheriff’s office were forced to attend a training session that promoted homosexuality and sexual diversity. As “But still,” Matt Pulle of the Texas Watchdog reports that, “the department survey strikes us as a bit odd. It asks respondents whether they agree with statements such as, Bisexual (sic) are actually completely gay,’ and, ‘If my favorite sports hero turned out to be gay, I would stop supporting him/her.” The survey also asked religious questions, such as: “Do you agree that ‘the Bible states that homosexuality is immoral,’ and ‘homosexuality is a sin.’” Apparently, Ms. Valdez is violating the sacred principle of separating Church and State from her duties as the sheriff of To read the entire article from the Texas Watchdog, link here:

written by Big Chief , September 18, 2008 I spent over three decades with this Department and worked for Five Sheriff's and left it with many good employee's working there. It makes me feel very sad how she (Lupe) has torn the Department apart and to a point employee's are ashamed to say where thry work. She blames prior Adminstration for HER inability to pass State Jail Inspection. It's very strange we always passed every year until she took Office.Lupe call it like it is you or the people you brought in know nothing about running a Jail. The Dallas County Jail was never under a Court Overseer or any Court Mandate until Lupe took Office.Lupe has failed and took a good Department that was well thought of all over the United States.

written by R Book , September 19, 2008 False. When has anyone been forced to take a survey? Also, the survey was distributed by a third party group as part of a diversity training. That does not mean the survey WAS the training. False, false, false. All the right wingers, and the handful of idiots who get paid to blog have your day coming. It's November 4th. When we can all say 'I told you so, and shut the hell up about things you have no factual information on.' You, Matt Pulle, and the Dallas Morning News should just go ahead and pack up your things and move North. We have no place for this right wing hatred and misinformation in this day and age. BTW. Who is Tom McGregor?
...
written by R Book , September 19, 2008 Lies. False information. Surveys are optional. When have you ever been forced to take a survey? And also, the survey was conducted by a third party as a small part of a much bigger diversity training. Not the Sheriffs Department. Tom McGregor (who does not exist) should join Belo, the Dallas Morning News, and the right wing liars should move North and let us get on without your lies. I tried to post this the first time and was rejected as spam. They don't want you to read the truth. They want you angry and confused just as the GOP has done for the past 8 years.

written by maximus , September 19, 2008 Byron, even the usual suspects are speechless on this one.

written by dt , September 19, 2008 This is ok with them, Byron. They don't have principles, only political imperatives. That's why it's pointless to argue with them.

written by Right Wing Republican Volunteer , September 19, 2008 Byron, Even the left-wingnuts are embarrassed by this one. Gee, it must be strange for you not being slandered as a homophobe. I guess ol' Lupe is a heterophobe! :-)

written by MDinTX , September 19, 2008 I hope that employees of the Sheriff's department have training on dealing with all types of people who live in the Dallas area. Hopefully we are moving past the racism and bigotry that have plagued Dallas law enforcement in the past. Valdez has been brave enough to tackle these tough issues head-on. That is why she was elected.
...
written by Byron George , September 19, 2008 MDinTx The only thing the Dallas Law Enforcement community need to be trained on is the law. If you break the law then you should be arrested. Race, creed, sexual orientation nor anything else should have anything to do with it. Unless you are an illegal immigrant, then LULAC doesn't want the laws enforced.

written by Holy Roller , September 19, 2008 Only thing I can say is that the survey is ill timed. The GOP looks for the wedge, and they've found it again. The department has taken this survey for years and it's never been an issue until 2008?
...
written by dt , September 19, 2008 Not forced to take a survey? True, they don't put a gun to your head, but if you don't do it you don't complete the diversity training and you get fired. They call it "diversity training" so they can force it on people. The reactions like those of R Book (who may not exist) are very telling. BTW, she got elected because Republicans stopped voting, a trend that accelerated in 2006. They are coming back this year because of Sarah Palin, (you won't destroy her with your hate-filled lies) and you guys are toast. You know it and I love it.

written by Byron George , September 19, 2008 Very true dt. Democrats do not like polls when they are not in their favor. All we hear is how bad the economy is, how bad the war in Iraq is, how Americans are "down right evil," yet with all these problems the BHO is tied or 1 to 2 percentage points ahead of McCain/Palin. You know the DNC is scared to death. They can talk all day about BHO being the savior but when people get in the voting booths they are going to think to themselves, "do I vote for a man who has very little experience, who I really don't know much about or am I going to vote for a man who is a war hero, and a long standing United States Senator who is respected by most of his peers. That is what it will all boil down to on election day. Deep down even the democrats must be wondering if they have the right man for the job. Biden said he wasn't ready. Clinton said he wasn't ready. What else do we need to know? BHO is probably a good man, but he is not ready to lead this country.

written by MDC , September 19, 2008 I guess when you run out of good arguments you attack Obama.
...
written by R Book , September 19, 2008 Coming back? Where were you in the primaries? Democrats had 230,000 votes to the Republican's 93,000. Lupe got more votes than all of the GOP Presidential candidates combined. And it sure is exciting to have a candidate without any sufficient qualifications or understanding of foreign or domestic affairs to be vice-president. It is exciting that Obama took the lead in polls again this week. Yes, the economy has played a large part in that shift as the public begins to understand the failed economic policies of the Republican Party have gotten us in this mess. But more importantly, it is the blatant and disgusting lies the McCain Palin camp spread about Obama and her resume that have turned the lead back to Democrats.
...
written by R Book , September 19, 2008 That;s funny to say an officer can't complete the training unless you participate in an anonymous survey. How would they verify this? The survey was optional.

written by manny s , September 19, 2008 Put a sock in it right wingers,,,,when the klan ran the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, it was great,,,yea for white folks,,,it has never been that peachy for minorities. You have two minorities running important departments and the righties howl and look for wedges to show us how bad these departments are being ran since these colored democrats took over....Dallas is changing to serve all its citizens not just the Norman Rockwells.
...
written by MDC , September 19, 2008 It seems the big issue is that the old time law enforcement is upset because Valdez is not a good-ole-boy. We are finding innocent people in our prisons and we are supset over a survey!
...
written by maximus , September 19, 2008 I've filled out similar surveys and attended "diversity" training in the past. It amounts to nothing more than the promotion of non-traditional values - homosexuality, feminist agenda, equality of all cultures and beliefs (as long as they were non-traditional). Traditional values were portrayed as narrow-minded and unacceptable in the workplace. I pity the poor men and women who have to work for this incompetent fool.
...
written by Byron George , September 19, 2008 manny s, I'm disappointed in you. You said, " Put a sock in it right wingers." Your racist self had an opportunity to say, "Put a sheet over it right wingers." But you missed out. Somebody needs to write your comedy routine for you.

written by michael a. , September 19, 2008 They were anonymous, there were no signatures so there was no retribution. Regardless of whether you think gays choose to be gay or whether it's just how they are, they are citizens that encounter Constables and deserve to be treated like any other taxpayer. The Dallas Police Dept. did this training years ago. The police used to go into bars and haul people out and beat them up, I know, i saw it happen. Sensitivity training is not "promoting homosexuality". That would be if Valdez had required Constables to make out with each other. Don't get too excited Byron, I know how much you love the gays. This post has just enough lies for me to go ahead and award it a bulls@*t prize. Tom designed to out Valdez and spread lies. You really have enough real issues about Valdez to beat her without stooping to this Sarah Palin lying frenzy. Nice.

written by MDC , September 19, 2008 Maximus, So you hate gays and women. I assume you are a racist too?
...
written by Another DSO Employee , September 19, 2008 Holy Roller do you work for the sheriff's office? Because this is the 1st time this survey has been given. It kills me people who talk as if they know what is going on with this department. You people have no clue as to what is going on. Lupe is an idiot. But Dallas County you get what you vote for!!!! This is Lupe trying to further her gay and lesbian agenda instead of worrying about the problems or employees of the sheriff's office.
...
written by dt , September 19, 2008 Anonymous survey? Really? Do they take it at home and just drop it off in County Mail, or do they do it supervised so the supervisors can see who completes it? Besides, if it is so "anonymous" how can it be a tool for weeding out the "intolerant?" Michael, no one is knocking diversity training; we are ripping the poll. As far as the dems outvoting the R's in 2008, just remember the R's outvoted the D's by a significant margin in 2006. Means nothing. "And it sure is exciting to have a candidate without any sufficient qualifications or understanding of foreign or domestic affairs to be vice-president. " I though you were talking about Obama until I got to the last phrase.
...
written by Jim , September 20, 2008 The R's lost their ass in 2006 Mr. dt, and yes, the D's did have more primary turnout than D's. That means nothing however, because you cannot count on primary numbers. The reason that the D's had such a turn out is due to the fact that they had a very contested primary race with strong opinions on both sides of it. They had a reason to get out and vote, the R's did not because their candidate had already been chosen in previous state primaries. It was just a formality by then for McCain, and most of the far Right doesnt like him anyway. The D's will likely lose about half or so of all those primary voters because their candidate did not get nominated or they were part of the whole Obama mania or whatever. They may not vote R, but they just wont vote at all. 2006 was a different story, the D's actually had less numbers than in previous mid-terms, it was just that the R's had far less. The D's won alot of offices, but by very small margins, some in the hundreds of votes. At the time, the R's were fed up with Bush, and other corruption in the Republican Party so the did not vote, or they voted Dem. You see, Republicans actually vote their folks out when they go bad. The Dems think that all those Republicans lost because the people wanted Dems in office, but it was really more like the people wanted the Republicans to act like Republicans. The D's now think taht R's didnt vote because the are not in Dallas County any longer, that they have moved North..... all you have to do is look at the voter registration numbers in surrounding counties, to see that they have not increased. The Republican votes in those counties did not increase either. Now, the R base is excited, and now they vote.

written by employee , September 20, 2008 I don't care that Lupe is Gay. I care that Lupe is incompetent and can not run the Sheriff's Dept. Lupe is also very vindictive and mean spirited. Ask anyone who works closely with her, her Chiefs even her election staff members. She has a terrible temper and she bad mouths people in her own camp. Regarding this "survey". This class was facilitated by a Sergeant who is on Lupe's executive staff. This Sergeant is openly gay and because of that the officers who attended this class were intimidated by the survey. Thinking that this was a survey to "out" officers who were Christians and believed in the Bible. That's the facts!

written by Concerned Citizen , September 20, 2008 I think this is just another example of the waste of taxpayer dollars that Loopy is doing in the role she is screwing up. I couldn't give a faggoty-ass that the likes to lickety split, I just wish she's use the real meaning of the term when it comes to leaving office. We get what we vote for, and it's time for Lowell Canaday to take over and quit pulling stupid shnit like this. Write comment
