The Secret Service and FBI have launched a joint investigation into the apparent hacking of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s private email account after a widely-read Web site published screen grabs from it on Wednesday. Fox News reports that, “the article posted on Gawker.com revealed snapshots of e-mail exchanges the The campaign manager for John McCain, Rick Davis released a statement Wednesday calling the publication a “shocking invasion of the governor’s privacy and a violation of law.” The Gawker article proudly boasts about the lengths to which the reporter went to verify the account, saying the person even called a phone number listed for Palin’s teenage daughter. The site also listed dozens of contact emails from the account. According to Fox News, “the hacking took place on a Yahoo e-mail account Palin uses – separate from another private account that was publicized in the Washington Post last week … Gawker complained that Palin has since “deleted” the account, and suggest she was trying to “destroy evidence.” The Palin family has been subjected to intense scrutiny after she was chosen as John McCain’s running mate on Aug 29. Reporters flocked to her hometown of To read the entire article from Fox News, link here:

written by Byron George , September 18, 2008 Where are all the liberals calling for the heads of the people who illegally gained access to Ms. Palins email? Why has BHO not condemned the perpetrator of this crime? It sure p%$#ed you off when America was using survellance to try to stop terrorism. I would think that Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Reid, Mr. Obama, Senator Clinton, etc would be screaming that these emails be destroyed and call for a congressional investigation into who knew what and when. Will it happen? NOPE!

written by HSH , September 18, 2008 This account was hacked by a shadow group (hackers don't have an association, Byron, and are very secretive) that often hacks into Scientology websites. I don't think anyone believes email should be hacked, I certainly don't, and I'm sure that the FBI and Secret Service can handle this. Sen. Obama has more important issues to focus on right now, as does Sen. McCain. By the way, this was a site that Gov. Palin also used to converse with staff on issues that they did not want to talk about on their government email servers. That is why these hackers went to work on her (so they said on a posting on a website used by hackers). Maybe she should stick to her professional email account when talking about professional matters and she wouldn't find herself a target. Right now I'd like Congress to focus on our economic meltdown. That should be priority number one.

written by Byron George , September 18, 2008 I was sure that would be your answer. I agree that their are more pressing issues but I would like to see some of the democrats in congress to come out and condemn this act. Then, at some point, have a hearing to get to the bottom of it. Furthermore, they didn't have a problem getting involved when it concerned the alledged wrongdoing by the current administration. They didn't have a problem going after major league baseball and they didn't have a problem going after the "big oil" companies over their profits. I don't want to get too far from the issue, but I thought it was interesting that our government makes more off a gallon of gasoline than the oil companies do.

written by Jason K , September 18, 2008 Byron, it's her personal email and the FBI and Secret Service are probably looking into it. Plus it was the work of one person, if you want to believe the story as told on 4chan. What do you want the Dems to do? Come out and condemn something that is already illegal? The Dems have a problem allowing the gov't access to our private lives without going through the courts like they used to have to. This is apples and oranges here.

written by Byron George , September 18, 2008 Jason K, I will rephrase my opinion. What should happen if BHO's campaign uses anything that is in these emails? Would that change you opinion on anything? And yes, I think BHO should come out and condemn this.

written by Byron George , September 19, 2008 Should the people who hacked Ms. Palin's sight be prosecuted when caught? Should the website that published them be prosecuted? How about the AP who refused to turn them over to the FBI?

written by Jason K , September 19, 2008 I don't believe the Obama campaign should use anything that would be found in the emails. My one caveat would be if she was using this address to conduct state business illegally instead of using a gov't email account. Of course you're innocent until proven guilty though. I'm not sure on your other questions as I don't know the law. But what did the AP refuse to turn over? Did they have something the other web sites did not?

written by RelicMM , September 19, 2008 Now we can prove how low unprincipled Democrats are willing to sink to win an election. Pay attention fleecees.

written by Jason K , September 19, 2008 So you know the hacker was a Democrat then? Believe it or not, there are people who don't identify with either party.

written by Jason K , September 19, 2008 Just read that a Dem Senators son is suspected of the email hack. Wonder if he was on his own or directed to do so. Hopefully the FBI will be able to get to the bottom of it. And if the Dems did direct him to do so, then they've got problems. Anyway, the kid is innocent until proven guilty. Write comment
