Obama Friendly with Scandal-ridden Detroit Mayor PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Fri, Sep 5, 2008, 12:09 PM

Detroit Obama.jpgDetroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Sen. Barack Obama shared a warm man-hug before a huge Motown crowd long before sex, lies and texting caused Kilpatrick to plead guilty to two felonies and resign on Thursday. This occurred 16 months ago as Obama was launching his campaign for president. He called Kilpatrick, a “great man” who will do “astounding things for many years to come.” But these words have backfired for Obama as Kilpatrick now heads to jail for four months.

Two attack ads have already appeared on the Internet replaying Obama’s Kwame moment. One, produced by the conservative Freedom’s Defense Fund, shows a mug shot of Kilpatrick, as the 10 felonies he faced scrolled down the screen while Obama proclaims, “I’m grateful to call him a friend.” Ominously, the ad ends with the line, “you should know who Obama’s friends are.”

“Even with Kwame Kilpatrick in the slammer,” Newsweek reports that, “Barack Obama will be dogged by the scandal that brought down Detroit’s mayor. For starters, Kilpatrick won’t be around to lead the get-out-the-vote effort in dependably Democratic Detroit, which could be decisive in the toss-up state of Michigan, where Obama clings to a slim lead over John McCain. But beyond the mechanical breakdown, Kilpatrick’s salacious, headline-comandeering controversy, has inflamed the racial tensions that have rived the region …”

Sam Riddle, a veteran Detroit political consultant, is quoted by Newsweek as saying, “this Kwame Kilpatrick mess has splattered over onto the Obama campaign at the worst possible time. Kilpatrick’s brand of leadership has fed into the worst stereotypes that white voters have about black leaders.”

Alaska Independence Party--friendly to the idea of seceding from the U.S. Abramoff, sentenced to 4 years in prison, friendly with Republican base. What's your point?

Haven't heard Nobama's disclaimer yet -- "This is not the Kwame Kilpatrick that I knew."

The point is -- Nobama keeps having to distance himself from his closest buddies. You are known by the bad company you keep.

"you are known by the bad company you keep."

In your article you state "Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Sen. Barack Obama shared a warm man-hug before a huge Motown crowd long before sex, lies and texting caused Kilpatrick to plead guilty to two felonies and resign on Thursday. Therefore in reading this, its clear to me and countless of readers Sen. Obama had no knowledge of Former Mayor Kilpatrick's indiscrestions. Therefore, my question to you Tom McGregor, what is your point of reference? Your article just as your many other articles are stale and have no merits to pointing out real issues. Each time you write an article dealing with African Americans you present no factual conclusive evidence to tie the individual to any wrong doing. Therefore, its clear to me and countless of other African Americans you are out to stir up controversy, incite racist attacks through your writings. And, its just a matter of time before you are exposed for what your heart really represents, ol East Texas Red Neck Back of the Woods Racist.

Unfortunately. learning of this sort of thing is not surprising. Obama is an opportunist, DeLuxe. So is this character from Detroit.

Actually, Obama issued a statement saying the Kilpatrick should step down.

If only the operatives were more worried about Obama being up in every swing state that Bush won except for Indiana where he's only down 2.

Jonathan I'm shocked you didn't proclaim Mayor Kilpatrick innocent and a victim of a racist conspiracy. Good job

Nobama dissed another comrad? What a shock!

Kilpatrick is exactly what you can expect from electing a "community organizer" to an executive position. No job skills -- just greedy and power hungry.

Thank God, Nobama won't be able to do to the US what Kwame did to Detroit.

Keep dreaming if you think Nobama's leading in every swing state the President carried. The polls are loaded with only 30% GOP voters.
