Mark 14: Jesus Anointed at Bethany: While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, "Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year's wages and the money given to the poor." And they rebuked her harshly.

"Leave her alone," said Jesus. "Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.

This past week while viewing Washington Journal, the program had a guest addressing poverty in the United States. The guest, a black lady, was critical of our government for not offering more programs to address the plight of the poor in the United States. Obviously, the lady was asking for more welfare assistance to the needy. Meaning, take more taxes for those who work and give it to those who don’t work. Really ladies and gentlemen it’s that simple.

Have ya’ll ever notice during Thanksgiving and the Christmas season, TV viewers are always shown TV clips of homeless and poor people at churches and shelter houses enjoying a good meal. Though I feel sorry for these folks, I always wonder why many are grossly overweight. I mean if they are so poor and can’t afford to buy groceries, why are they so fat? I think most of us know the answer: food stamps, welfare checks, while staying home doing nothing.

Some of you might ask, "James, you are a heartless soul!" Truthfully folks, I am not. I have helped many people in my life. More than some of you would believe, but I don’t want to shine any light on me while on this subject of the poor.

Aside from the mentally ill, physically handicap, women and children with abusive husbands, and the elderly, I have zero tolerance for others. Especially those who are able-bodied, young, and have a sound mind, who won’t get a job because the government provides for them. Come on, why do think we have millions of illegal immigrants in our country? Is it because we don’t have enough American workers to do the jobs illegals are doing? Far from it, we have millions of able-bodied Americans who rather stay home, get fat, and stay poor because they simply won’t get a job. And what’s more disgusting, is that these same welfare people will only vote for politicians, mostly Democrats, to guarantee them getting welfare assistance.

This past May we had a terrible hailstorm in Lake Worth. Many homes in my area, along with mine, were heavily damaged. Most of the houses needed their roofs replaced as did mine. For weeks, roofing companies from throughout the Metroplex converged to my neighborhood. A daily exercise walker, I usually walk all over my neighborhood. As I walked, I couldn’t help but notice that most of the roofers were illegal alien Mexicans. As the weeks passed, and many roofing companies continued coming to work into my community I didn’t see a single black, white, or American Hispanic on top of a house repairing the damaged roofs. Finally, when my roof was being replaced I struck up a conversation with the foreman of the roofing crew, who was white. I then asked him why most roofing companies hired Mexicans. "James, we’ve tried for years to hire American workers, but they just won’t show up. I guess they can’t endure the hard work these Mexicans will do. We pay these men a fair wage, but I guess $13 an hour is not enough for American workers," he concluded. Later, one of the Mexicans working on my house confirmed the fair wage his foreman paid them.

So there you have in a nutshell folks, we have rampant illegal immigration because uneducated, lazy, and unskilled American workers won’t fill the many unskilled jobs illegals will do.

I’m sure by now most of you are overdosed with the media praising Senator Obama on his acceptance speech in Denver. Frankly, I found it appalling. What I concluded as I listened to him lambaste the free enterprise system and capitalism is that this man is an absolute socialist. He verbally insulted wealth people, businessmen, Fortune 500 companies, and promised that if elected President, poor Americans will soon be living the American Dream. Ladies and gentlemen, what is the American Dream? Isn’t it working hard, getting educated, invest, save, start a business, or whatever it takes to make a dollar? Yet, this socialist Senator is telling those who will vote for him that he in essence will take money in the form of taxes from hard working Americans, and successful businessmen, and distribute it among poor Americans which literally will continue their impoverish lives.

Finally, Senator Obama continues to link Senator McCain to President Bush. Fine with me, but here’s some leader’s of Socialist and communist countries with the same political agenda of Senator Obama: Premier Fidel Castro of Cuba, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, and former President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
