| Prosecutor Wants Detroit Mayor to Resign |

Baker is quoted by the Detroit Channel 4 News as saying, “it’s an offer we feel would satisfy the ends of justice. And if it can settle the case, then we would be happy with it. If not, then we go to trial.” The mayor’s attorney said Kilpatrick will respond to the deal at a later date. But, Jim Thomas, one of the mayor’s attorneys, said after the hearing that his team is preparing for a trial. Wayne County District Court Judge Ronald Giles ruled on Friday that there is enough evidence for the Detroit Mayor to stand trial for allegedly assaulting a deputy and he was bound over to the Circuit court. As reported by Channel 4, “the ruling means Kilpatrick now faces trial in 10 felonies in two separate criminal cases in Wayne County Circuit Court. On Friday, Judge David Groner entered a not guilty plea for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in the assault case against him. Prosecutor Doug Baker proposed a deal that if the mayor resigns by Sept. 3, one of the assault counts will be dismissed, but Kilpatrick stayed mute and refused to respond.
