Nader Predicts Hillary as Veep Pick PDF Print E-mail
by Carolyn Barta    Tue, Aug 19, 2008, 08:44 PM
Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader thinks Barack Obama will swallow his pride and name Hillary Clinton his V.P. pick.  The others being speculated about -- Joe Biden, Evan Bayh and Tim Kaine -- are just smokescreens, he says.  Nader phoned politico.com Tuesday afternoon to offer his prediction that a surprise nod to Clinton is what Obama has in store—never mind the talk of mistrust between the Clintons and Obama.

“He just has to swallow hard and do what JFK did” in picking rival Lyndon Johnson in 1960, said the liberal activist and maverick presidential candidate.  Nader says Clinton is the smart choice because polls show that 25 percent of her supporters are not yet on board with the Obama campaign. He says Obama has also got to be concerned because he got beat in the faith dialogue at Saddleback.

I do not often find myself in agreement with Mr. Nader, but here I must say I do agree with his analysis about Hillary being the running mate who will make the "Obama ticket" most competitive. I have thought for some while that in the end Obama [or, more correctly, his "handlers"] would either choose Hillary to run with him, or else choose someone else and thus insure conclusively that the "Obama candidacy" could never have any chance to win in the Fall 2008 general election. That said, I add that I am not planning to vote for Obama regardless of his running mate : I just do not think he is qualified to be President.

There have been reports that Barack will not pick anyone who will overshadow him.

Look for Cindy Sheehan as a dark horse.
