According to AFP, “’The Obama Nation’ is by Jerome Corsi, who made his name by co-authoring, ‘Unfit for Command,’ which maligned 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry’s Vietnam War record and contributed to his defeat by President George W. Bush.” Threshold Editions, the new book’s publisher, said it examined “why the extreme leftism of an Obama presidency would leave the The book queries whether Obama ever abandoned his youthful dalliance with soft drugs and claims he has “extensive connections with Islam and radical politics,” and attributes his rise to national prominence to corrupt The book subtitled, “Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality,” was released on August 1, and the New York Times reports that it would make its debut on the bestseller list for nonfiction hardcover books this Sunday. As reported by AFP, “sales have been driven by hefty bulk orders, intense voter interest in Senator Obama and a major marketing campaign featuring interviews with Corsi by well-known conservative talk radio hosts across the country, the paper said. written by HSH , August 13, 2008 The chief editor of the publishing house behind the book is GOP operative Mary Matalin. Among the lies in the book -- • Corsi's book says that Mr. Obama had "yet to answer" whether he "stopped using marijuana and cocaine completely in college, or whether his drug usage extended to his law school days or beyond." Corsi even adds, "How about in the U.S. Senate?" But as the Times points out, Obama has written his memoir that he "stopped getting high" in the early 1980s. That's lie number one. • Corsi's book, amusingly, uses Newsmax.com as a source for the falsehood that Obama was present at a sermon in July of 2007 where Reverend Jeremiah Wright faulted "the 'white arrogance' of America's Caucasian majority for the world's suffering, especially the oppression of blacks." In fact, Obama wasn't at that sermon. Even conservative columnist Bill Kristol issued a correction after trafficking in the same falsehood. That's lie number two. • Corsi says that Obama failed to dedicate his book "Dreams From My Father" to his family, an apparent effort to suggest that Obama lacks family values. But The Times reports that Mr. Obama did dedicate the book to several family members in the introduction. That's lie number three. Corsi's book is set to hit the Times best-seller list this weekend. The non-fiction one. That's the real tragedy. If published, it should be as fiction.

written by Jim , August 13, 2008 So what? Like the left has never put out anything negative about conservatives.......Michael Moore ring a bell?
...
written by Byron George , August 14, 2008 Now Jim, you know it is not the same if the left gets a dose of their own medicine. It will not take three post before someone calls the book racist. That is the democratic catch phrase when someone disagrees with BHO.

written by RelicMM , August 14, 2008 Too bad, the German people never had a comparable best seller warning against Hitler! A socialist president (not too different from a fascist in totalitarian effect) would be a definite disaster.

written by MRN , August 14, 2008 Three errors in a book that's, what, 300 pages or thereabouts? And while we're on the subject-- Why does getting high regularly as a youth make no difference for BO, while getting one dwi was a disqualifier for GWB? Why does GWB get excoriated for a prior drinking problem, while BO's previous haze problem present no problem at all? Who cares if he was at the church for one particular sermon? A Republican makes a visit to Bob Jones University, and he is a devout follower of everything Bob Jones U. stands for. A Republican gets endorsed by Jerry Falwell, and he's a devout disciple of JF. Barack goes to a church for 25 years and can't be associated at all with the views and statements of his pastor. HSH knows all about fiction, though. Got to give him that.

written by HSH , August 14, 2008 The three mentioned are merely a sampling. There are more. As to your claim "...while getting one dwi was a disqualifier for GWB?" MRN, I feel the need to break it to you -- GWB won. So disqualifier does not qualify. Oh, and by the way, GWB was never honest about his cocaine use. I guess Sen. Obama's honesty about experimenting with drugs, rather than lying, is a problem for you. The publication of this book as "non-fiction" violates the two most important tenets of publishing: accuracy and fairness.

written by Byron George , August 14, 2008 Funny how some defend BHO by pointing fingers at others. Do any of you BHO supporters find any fault in this man? I cannot believe that no one will question him about his association with William Ayers. Good grief, the man is an admitted terrorist. Just what has BHO done for America? Who is BHO?
...
written by HSH , August 14, 2008 Byron: His "association" with William Ayers was as merely an acquaintance. Hardly an association. And why do conservatives feel the need to defend the indefensible?
...
written by Byron George , August 14, 2008 Both men served together on the board of the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based charity that develops community groups to help the poor. Ayers joined the board in 1999 and is still on it. Obama left it in December 2002 after nine years. 3 years together on a board does not sound like "casual acquaitance." In the mid-1990s, when Obama was making his first run for the Illinois Senate, Ayers had Obama to his home to introduce him to others. Doesn't sound like someone who "just lives in the neighborhood." You are right about one thing HSH. It is indefensible.

written by Booner , August 15, 2008 I just got an email from Howard Dean denouncing this book and lining up the faithful to attack the author. That is dumb. There are a numerous anti-Obama books out there. It make it look like looks Corsi hit a nerve, which will help him sell more books. I just started reading it. The point about what Corsi says about the dedication of Obama's book is wrong. In Corsi's book, he says 'Dreams From My Father" was not dedicated to certain named relatives, e.g., Obama'father, mother stepfather or grandparents. But even if he is in error, you give credibility to the remainder of the book when you nit-pick on irrelevancies. Attacking sources like Newsmax buys nothing. Even the worthless National Enquirer is right sometimes. Ask the Breck Girl. Corsi says that his book is not a "Swift Boat" book (meaning that the Swift Boat Veterans are not affiliated with it. But this book may very well "swift boat" Obama. That is, sink him with the truth, like Corsi helped do with Kerry. Write comment
