FISH: J-HO TO TRY SOFTBALL - WITH TRACY McGRADY! PDF Print E-mail
by Mike Fisher    Tue, Aug 12, 2008, 08:43 PM

We here at DallasBasketball.com and DallasBlog love Josh Howard – even when he can’t control what the ball do (it’s crazy, man!)  -- so we are pleased at his continued attempts to be Good J-Ho, as we’ve learned he is doing this weekend at the First Josh Howard Foundation Celebrity Softball Showdown in DeSoto (TX).

We’ve got the details (including the scheduled participation of Jason Terry and Tracy McGrady!) and we’ve got hope that Josh, working in conjuction with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Texas, will drive straight,  stay straight and control the (soft)ball so it goes straight.

Worth noting: The last time Josh attempted a high-profile, well-intentioned charity effort (giving back to his community as the overseer of a kids' basketball league) he ended up gaining a higher profile for the wrong reasons. ... you know, with the drag-racing thing.

Time to take another shot at getting doing the right thing, um, right.

The game is scheduled for  this Saturday (August 16th) at Grimes Park in Desoto. There’s a game, there’s an after-party, there are celebrities, and it’s all for a great cause.

Featured will be Josh Howard and Celebrity Friends (“J-Ho All-Stars’’) vs. the gang at radio station K-104. There will be an autograph session from 3-4 p.m, a Celebrity Home-Run

Derby from 4-5, and then the Celebrity Softball Showdown from 5-7. Grimes Park is located at 501 East Wintergreen in Desoto, Texas, and the $10 (cash) admission raises funds for the Josh Howard Foundation, gives fans a chance at giveaways including Mavs tickets and a $1,000 cash prize, and the opportunity to hobnob with standouts from the fields of sports and entertainment.

On the scheduled guest list: Tracy McGrady (Houston Rockets), Kenyon Martin (Denver

Nuggets), Rocsi (“106 & Park’’), DMC (Run DMC), Michael Blackson (comedian),

DeSagana Diop (Mavs), Jason Terry (Mavs), Greg Buckner (Memphis Grizzlies), Everson Walls (former

Dallas Cowboy), Giovonne Samuels (Disney Channel), Reginald Ballard (From “Martin”),

Derek Harper (Former Mav), and Marcus Paulk (Roll Bounce).

If you are an afterparty type? That’s at the Empire Room (48th Floor at 1401 Elm in Downtown

Dallas) starting at 9 p.m. For more information, call 214-986-5104. And if you are going to the Celebrity Game or the afterparty? Drive straight, stay straight, be straight, OK?
