Clinton-loyalist Whacked from Wisconsin Delegation PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Jul 28, 2008, 07:09 PM

Debra Bartoshevich, the duly-elected Democratic Party delegate for Sen. Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin, who vowed undying loyalty to the former first lady, has been whacked by the state party and banished from attending the Democratic National Convention in Denver, next month. She can no longer join the 92-member delegation.

The Los Angeles Times reports that, “Bartoshevich campaigned tirelessly for Clinton in Wisconsin and traveled to other states at her own expense. She was excited at the prospect of the first female candidate for president in a major party.”

The 41-year-old emergency room nurse, who claimed to have never voted Republican in her life, was fiercely in favor of Clinton’s universal healthcare program. She donated a large sum of her salary to the New York Senator. Ms. Bartoveshich was elected a convention delegate at the county level and was very excited about the trip to her lifelong party’s national convention.

Yet, when Sen. Barack Obama won sufficient delegates to capture the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, she was bitterly disappointed. She admitted that she now plans to vote for Republican Sen. John McCain for president in November.

According to the LA Times, “state party chair Joe Wineke, an ardent supporter of John Edwards until he became an ardent supporter of Obama, began proceedings to strip the delegate status from Bartoshevich.”

Since Bob Barr is the Libertarian party candidate, i think it's safe to say there won't be any delegates for him at the GOP convention. I think Paul will have around twenty delegates, but there could be more than that because many Paul supporters are planning on pretending that they support McCain and then switch their vote to Paul at the convention.

Good for the Wisconsin Democratic Party. They did what they should have done which is to enforce the Democratic Party rules. DNC Delegates pledge to support the nominee of the party, and it is a violation of party rules for delegates to endorse another party's candidate for president. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin was thus obligated to strip this woman of her delegate credentials if they intend for their rules to mean anything. Good for them.
