Police Labor Unions to Denounce Sheriff Lupe Valdez PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Jul 14, 2008, 04:19 PM

Dallas Lupe.jpgFour labor unions inside the Dallas County Sheriff’s department will openly denounce Sheriff Lupe Valdez at a press conference to be held on the steps of the Frank J. Crowley Courthouse at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

In an interview with the Dallas Blog, Scott Evans, the president of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Association, said: “all four labor unions are coming together to discuss their dissatisfaction of Sheriff Lupe Valdez and the current (Dallas County Sheriff’s department) administration.”

Mr. Evans cited Ms. Valdez’s poor leadership qualities, alleged ineptitude, and her decision to hire staff from people outside of the Dallas County Sheriff’s department, as reasons for their complaints.

Representatives from the four labor unions include, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Association, DCPOA ([mostly African-American] Police Officers Association), LPOA (Latino Police Officers Association), and the Fraternal Order of Police.

The Dallas Blog has also learned that a member of the LPOA will speak on behalf of the entire group. Hence, a Hispanic member will publicly castigate Sheriff Lupe Valdez, who is also a Hispanic.

As an employee of the Sheriff's Department I can tell you that Im outraged at the lack of leadership and ineptitude that our so called sheriff has shown. She cares nothing for her employees whatsoever as we have recently seen in her decision to hire a chief from the outside after nearly four years in office. The failure to alow her own people to better themselves and the department by promoting to chief is an outrage. She seems to think that that there is no one qualified within the department for this job. First off, if thats true, then it is YOUR FAULT sheriff. It is a leader's job to develope their personnel for the better. Of course, it is not true at all, and just about every single supervisor in the whole department is more quallified than this "6 month lieutant" she plans to hire. What a disgrace you are Lupe. The the fight with commissioners over a documentary right when we need it the least, hiding in your office during budget talks when real people in your department stand to lose their positions, and we could go on and on.....and on.
Please join me in voting AGAINST Lupe Valdez this November.

Lets get the facts straight. She was hiding in Central Intake during budget talks. It seems everytime there is a crisis or discussion, She (Lupe Valdez) runs and hides. Now that is leadership..

Is Valdez the target this week then Watkins next week like he was last week?

You would have us believe that life in the Sheriff's Dept. and the DA's office was full of angel kisses before they fell into evil Democratic hands. Why is the mayhem you describe daily not more apparent? Is it a sort of mental optimism opposite of what Phil Gramm spoke of and do you guys want us to join you in your whining as you pine for a Republican take back in November.

I'm afraid that the Bush that got you last election cycle will hit you even harder this time because life has gotten even worse. Look for the sweep to grow and extend outside the county and rear its head elsewhere in the state. Enjoy.

Has nothing to do with Democrat or Republican, it has to do with quality leadership. No one here has mentioned the DA's Office except you.

And why has life gotten even worse, michael? Could it be the fact that six years under Bush and a Republican congress, gas was $2.38/gallon, and two years under Bush and a Dem. congress, gas is now $4.20 and climbing? Circumstantial, you say? I'm just applying the standards you Dems. apply all the time.

What amazes me, and encourages me at the same time, is how many Dems. think they actually won something in 2006 in Dallas County. 39,000 Republican regulars didn't bother to vote past Congressman on the ballot but didn't vote Dem., either. If they come back, you guys are toast.

I need a raise, and I have been working here since 1979. I'm a civilian employee and in my dept. they expect me to do everything "far and beyound". And darnit I'm tired.

No, they didnt move out of the county. Check the numbers in the surrounging counties, you will find that they numbers are down there too, not much in the way of new registration. Besides that, I give even Democrats some cretit, I for one think that they are not stupid people and can make their own mind up. Dems think they have a lock on the minority vote, I think that is racist and untrue. The dems assume that if your skin is dark, you will automatically vote stright ticket democrat....racists a-holes. I personally feel that people can make up their own mind, and they are not stupid as you dem elites seem to think. I think minorities are smarter than that and want quality leadership.

No, they did not move anywhere. Check the numbers for Congress and above and for the uncontested judges. The Dem. straight ticket voters were not enough to win without Republican undervotes. They're here, they tried to send a message where it did the least amount of good, and I believe they are realizing that. Dallas County did not "turn" in the sense of Republicans started to vote Democrat. That's your weakness-you did nothing to bring this about; the Republicans did it for you, and what they gave they can take away.
That's the reality. And, I hope you libs continue to not believe it so you can congratulate yourselves on a great victory and the vindication of your wonderful strategy and hard work. BTW, your vote in 2006 was down, also, just not nearly as much.
