Martha Stewart Banned from Britain PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Fri, Jun 20, 2008, 05:53 PM

Martha Stewart.jpgDue to Martha Stewart’s criminal record for a conviction for obstructing justice, she has been refused a visa to Great Britain.

According to the Daily Telegraph of London, “the lifestyle guru, convicted four years ago in the US for obstructing justice, was planning to speak at the Royal Academy and to hold meetings with several figures in the fashion and leisure industry, including Jasper Conran, and was due to travel within the next few days.”

The UK Border Agency sent a refusal letter to Ms. Stewart. Yet, a spokesperson for Martha believes this issue will be resolved amicably and she could visit the UK. Apparently, Ms. Stewart has many friends in Britain, whom she has visited with on numerous occasions.

A British government official told the Telegraph he disagrees with the order to ban Ms. Stewart from Britain, since her visit could generate much goodwill between the two countries.

The Telegraph reports that: “It was not clear if Ms. Stewart had been singled out or was the victim of a blanket rule imposed by the new agency. In 2004, she served five months in prison for lying to federal agents investigating the sale of shares shortly before they fell sharply in value.”

Despite the controversy, the UK Border Agency seems unwilling to change its ruling as a spokesperson for the agency emphasized that foreign persons found guilty of serious criminal offenses do not deserve an opportunity to visit Britain even for business purposes.

And Cat Stevens is banned from America.Go figure. is it safe for me to admit that I contributed money a couple of years ago to Yusuf Islam's (Cat Stevens) charitable organization which funds orphanages in Bosnia-Serbia, Iraq and Sudan? If not, I deny any such action. There must be hundreds of "Steve Heath's' in this country.

If Martha Stewart is banned from UK for one conviction for obstructing justice, then Scooter Libby is also banned for his FOUR convictions for it.

It used to be that if you were convicted of a felony you couldn't vote or belong to the American Legion, or be on a jury. Now, you just can't go to England. How, about Mexico,or Iraq?
