On Monday, Episcopalians, Unitarian Universalists, rabbis, a Methodist and even a Catholic priest are planning to bless some same-sex marriages when they are set to become legal in California. The San Jose Mercury News quotes Rev. Susan Russell of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, which has been blessing same-sex unions for 16 years, as saying, “I believe the family is a cornerstone for a strong society, and I’m all in favor of everything we can do to build up the values that make strong families. I think the values matter more than the gender of the people making up the heads of those families.” Antonio Salas, coordinator of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Catholics group at Newman Hall Holy Spirit parish in Berkely, claims he knows of rebellions priests who have performed religious ceremonies for same-sex couples. He argues that priests have a moral obligation to serve as pastors over homosexual weddings, since the Mercury News quotes him as saying, “the greatest sin is to sin against your conscience. With an informed conscience, you can dissent from the church’s teachings.” To read the entire article from the San Jose Mercury News, link here: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

written by Grrr , June 15, 2008 This is great news. Maybe we'll catch up with Europe one of these days. Oh, come on, If you had my ex-wife, you'd think about marrying a guy too. Sorry my gay friends, that comment diminishes your cause. I support you guys eight bazillion percent. Keep on keepin' on. You'll get equality & I'll be right with you in the streets drinking & crying & thanking God that, indeed, all men are created equal. After that, Republicans, you still have fat people, Arabs, Mexicans, environmentalists, females, Bill Clinton & emos to hate. See conservatives, there is hope.

written by Chris Johnson , June 16, 2008 I think it's about time we stop legislating discrimination - unfortunately Texas is always known for being backwards and slow, so I wouldn't expect people to stop hating their fellow mankind anytime soon.

written by michael a. , June 16, 2008 Homosexuality was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1973 Byron. You might want to progress past the 1950's seeing as how it's 2008.

written by Holy Roller , June 16, 2008 Like Kinky Friedman said, he wants everyone to feel equally miserable and being able to divorce. As far as the church thing, that is the main obstacle. Our country still treats marriage as a church function. It is not. It is a legal function. We should run it like Britain does-- you get married by a magistrate and then can have a ceremony at a church at your own convenience and the church's convenience. Then there is no forcing of a church to marry someone they dont want to marry (which has been the argument of many lately)

written by Byron George , June 17, 2008 mikey, maybe they should revisit it and put it back in. For two guys or two gals to want to be married is sick, immoral and unnatural. God did not create Adam and Steve.

written by michael a. , June 17, 2008 Byrey, Methinks thou doth protest too much. Don't suggest people go to the psychiatrist if you don't want to listen to what the profession has to say about it. Hey, nobody expects you to get to 2008, you're a Republican after all. Just try to make it to 1973, then you can still be thirty-five years behind. You're already there with your 'Adam and Steve' one liner. Heck, I think Anita Bryant coined that one. Write comment

Dozens of churches throughout California have endorsed a November ballot to ban gay marriage. However, some clergy will preside over same-sex weddings at their churches when homosexual couples leave municipal offices next week with marriage licenses in hand.
