Cornyn: Conservatives Stray; Gingrich: Drill in U.S. PDF Print E-mail
by Special to DallasBlog.com    Sat, Jun 14, 2008, 11:48 AM

john cornyn.jpgU.S. Sen. John Cornyn, who faces challenger State Rep. Rick Noriega (D-Houston) in the Senate race, suggested in a speech at the GOP state convention that a lot of Republicans in Washington have strayed from conservative principles. He touted his conservative bona fides to the audience and against abortion, "immoral experimentation in the name of science," illegal immigration and high taxes.  He promised to reduce the size of government, insist on transparency, make the government friendlier to the free enterprise system, and continue to support the war on terror.

Cornyn also largely echoed Newt Gingrich's sentiments. The former U.S. House speaker, taking his turn at the convention, called on the U.S. Congress to repeal laws making it illegal to drill for oil in the several promising sites within the United States, including the Atlantic coast, the Eastern Gulf, and ANWR. He touted the slogan “Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.”

Gingrich asked convention attendees to sign the petition on the website AmericanSolutions.com, which calls on Congress to “act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices) by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.” As he spoke he said there were 680,000 signatures. At last look, there were almost 730,000.

He also suggested that the president release a substantial portion of the strategic oil reserve, his one energy policy proposal that Sen. Cornyn disagreed with.

Where was his devotion to transparency when the Bush Administration was refusing to open up on so many issues? By the way when is he going to repudiate the photo with McCain and Hagee?

Mr. Kid,

What bugs me about Cornyn more than him being a clown, is that he is so damn boring. The fricking guy is walking, breathing Xanax.

I am sure Cornyn is a nice guy & he must be smart & everything, but could somebody please check his pulse? I am not sure he is actually alive.

If you have ever seen him on CSPAN, it's like his staff wheels him out & he spontaniously begins babbling to himself in a monotone. It sounds like his passion is about where he is going to have his next lunch.

Cornyn has performed for Texas well & needs to be returned to D. C. Gingrich is "deqad right"!!...We can drill our way ouyt of this mess & dependancy on foreign nations that hate Us!!...We a nuts to lock up over 3/4 of the nation's energy when we are hurting...not to mention not building additional refineries!!...this is not to ignore alternate sources, but that will take years to catch up to fossil fuels & we need to start now!!...If there is a "bozo as the Fairview Kid suggests, it is the Dems who have done this thing to the nation!!Drill now!!

Dallasite 1,

Please, if you can wake up our senate delegation, we could drill there. Unfortunatly, we have the worst senators in the country. We all know we need to drill more, why are these meat puppets stalling?
