Tornado Blows Away Wind Lab PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, Jun 12, 2008, 04:40 PM

Kansas tornado.jpgThe Wind Erosion Lab at Kansas State University was destroyed by an apparent tornado on Wednesday. The storms and tornadoes that raked Kansas last night caused an estimated $20 million in damage at the campus of KSU, which is in Manhattan. Nobody at the university was injured.

Reuters quotes from Tom Rowson, the university’s vice president for administration and finance, as saying, “the damage on campus is extensive. The Wind Erosion Lab is gone. There is significant damage to the engineering complex. Roofs have been damaged or torn off, windows have been blown out in many buildings.”

A building housing the university’s nuclear reactor had been damaged, but the reactor “remains safe and unharmed,” according to university officials.
