McCain Goes for Texas Cash Over Party Base PDF Print E-mail
by Carolyn Barta    Thu, Jun 12, 2008, 01:29 PM

money and politics.bmpWhat's up with this? Presumed GOP nominee John McCain can't make it to the Texas Republican Convention running Thursday through Saturday in Houston but can be in the convention city on Tuesday for a big fundraiser at the home of a restauranteur and his wife who previously raised money for Bill Clinton and last year donated to Hillary.  The general reception is $1,000 but a private reception and photo op with McCain is $10,000 (give or raise) or $2,300 without the photo op.  See more details on the Chronicle's Houston politics blog.

Meanwhile, the marquee speakers for the GOP convention are former candidates defeated by McCain -- former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who actually has some Texas delegates -- and onetime party darling Newt Gingrich.  The big news at the convention is expected to be the effort by the Ron Paul campaign to get national convention delegates.  Oh yeah, according to the Washington Post calendar, McCain is to campaign in Texas on Monday, as well.  So much for the 14,000 party activists who will be attending the state confab.

Lucky for Mc that he has Obama as his opponent. Mc is making it so hard to be enthusiastic about him, but the Messiah keeps reminding me why I have to support Mc.

CAROLYN :
I thought that you were/are a Democrat; so if I am right, what do you care about the "14,000 party activists who will be attending the state confab.", other than to try to poke fun at Republicans; and if I am right, what do you know about what the "14,000 party activists who will be attending the state confab." expect or want to happen at the upcoming Republican Texas State Convention: and if I am right, what do you know about who the "14,000 party activists who will be attending the state confab." will really want to see and hear from at that "confab."............. and "Hey, by the way" what is your "take" on the absence of Mr. Obama from the Demcrat Texas State Convention.......
I would welcome your reply.

I can think of a very good reason why McCain doesn't want to go to the Texas GOP convention: They're a bunch of loons. Having McCain associate himself with them would be the electoral kiss of death in the rest of the country.

Sorry, folks. McCain's gotta look like a 'centrist'.

Fertitta also maxed out to Rudy Guiliani and John Cornyn. Don't think his holding a fundraiser for McCain is a stretch.
