The First Court of Appeals has requested briefs from both sides of the lawsuit challenging the Republican Party of Texas's convention procedures. The plaintiffs are trying to get a court order directing the Republican Party to follow provisions of the Texas Election Code requiring the election of a permanent convention chairman before conducting any business. The Party responds that its current procedures have always been in full compliance with Texas law. The permanent chairman makes many of the procedural rulings on what matters will and will not go to the convention floor, which is why this matter is of some controversy. The plaintiffs must submit briefs by 9 a.m. tomorrow, and the Republican party must do so by 5 p.m. tomorrow.
