Motorcycle daredevil Robbie Knievel will attempt to jump 25 Hummers before Saturday’s Indy Racing League race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Knievel, who jumped the IndyCar field at TMS before the 2001 race, said this jump will be more difficult because of its increased length, as well as the high winds expected Saturday evening.
The field of 25 Hummers will be about 200 feet long, and Knievel will get a 600 foot head start that will get his 500 cc motorcycle nearly 90 mph as it jumps off a four-foot wide ramp that’s 10 feet tall and angled 15 degrees. If the jump is successful, he’ll land on a 12-foot wide ramp.
Knievel is the son of legendary daredevil Robert “Evel” Knievel, and has duplicated nearly every one of his father’s jumps. He’s set 20 world jumping records in the more than 250 jumps he’s completed. On May 24, Knievel jumped 24 soda delivery trucks at an amusement park in Ohio.
