Internet Hoax Played on Small Texas Town PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, May 15, 2008, 05:08 PM

Boy prostitutes.jpgThe small town of Newark, Texas has become the victim of a humorous internet hoax. The British Web site, www.money.co.uk, claimed that a 13-year-old boy had been convicted of fraud for hiring two prostitutes and racking up $30,000 in charges on his father’s credit card.

Allegedly, Ralph Hardy, the teenage boy, paid hookers to play X-Box video games with him and his friends, but they never made requests for sexual services.

The World Net Daily, a conservative news Web site, reports that, “the British report is just a silly online rumor, Newark police told WND. Spokeswoman Amy Cromer laughed and said, ‘as far as we know, the story is a hoax. There have not been any arrests here, and we’re not aware of any convictions like that in this County.”

The British report alleges that the kids were asking a deliveryman, who brought stockpiles of Dr. Pepper, Fritos and Oreos, where they could pick up chicks, indicating they would pay large sums of money for escort services since they won a “World of Warcraft” tournament.

The English publication concludes, “Ralph’s ambition is to one day become a politician.”

Cromer cheerfully dispelled the internet hoax to WND by saying, “we don’t have hookers here. I guess he went to Dallas for that.”

But how did the Brits know that "Newark, Texas" is a joke?

I would really like to meet this kid. I live in Newark Texas. We don't even have a grocery store. How can we have prostitutes? I mean, cracked out hoes is one thing.. But nobody in this town is smart enough to charge money for sexual favors, they just exchange drugs for them.
