Georgians Can Carry Guns in Restaurants PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, May 15, 2008, 10:16 AM

Georgia guns.jpgGov. Sonny Perdue of Georgia signed legislation on Wednesday that would permit Georgians with carry licenses to be able to tote their concealed guns on public transportation, in restaurants that serve alcohol and in state parks.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that, “Perdue inked the controversial gun bill on the final day for him to sign or veto legislation. He is also expected to sign a $21 billion state budget that will give 200,000 teachers and state employees 2.5 pay raises and is expected to sign a bill allowing auto insurers to raise rates on some coverage without first getting state approval.”

Amidst the 2008 state legislative session, the gun bill debate ensued for two years pitting Republican constituencies against each other over the rights of gun owners and the ability of landlords to control their property.

Under the new law, restaurant patrons will be permitted to carry a gun but would be barred from drinking in the meantime.

Hooray! At long last those with personal insecurities (out of politeness, we shall refrain from speculating on their exact nature) can express them in public! When will Texas get its own Personal Insecurities Expressed With Firearms (The Bigger, The Better) In Public Act?

Come on, Hombre. A lot of you fuzzy reactionaries said if Texas got a concealed handgun law "blood (would) run in the streets."

They were wrong then, and you're wrong now.

Hooray! Miss Kitty and Marshal Dillon would be proud. We've come so far!

I would rather take my chance with the extremely unlikely possibility of some nut with a gun, instead of a restaurant full of Dirty Harry's intent on protecting the world and playing cops and robbers.

Don't worry Lee, we Dirty Harry types will protect you in case "the nut" starts firing.
Let me guess. You would like to see a ban on handguns! Correct?

I trust a bunch of rednecks with guns a heck of a lot more than I trust a cop to be there at the exact point I need them.

Now that is not to say I disrespect the police in the slightest. I hold our law enforcement in the highest regard, but I am also a realist and I know that they can not always be there when I need them. I also know that rednecks may not always be the most sophisticated people, but they are not going to stand by and allow a lady to be mugged or raped if they have a gun ready at hand. Thems good ole boys!

Or you could think of it this way. As long as we have armed rednecks, we will never be occupied by an invading force.

There is a reason why our founding fathers gave us the right to possess arms. It allows us to keep our government in check.

A governing body should always have a healthy fear of its people. It ensures that they keep the greater good in mind when making decisions. It's like owning a lion. You love the thing more than anything, but you never forget that at the end of the day, it has claws and teeth that will tear your throat out if you are not paying attention.

A little revolution now and then is a healthy thing, no?

An Average Joe, so the reason for good government is the possibility of armed insurrection? That is really bizarre and an argument that I have never heard in any discussion of gun control or lack there of. And I thought good government depended on the right to vote people we do not like out of office.

I thought good government was doing "the will of the people." But I must be wrong since the california supreme court overturned a "vote of the people" today.

In protection of a minority who just wanted the same rights that the majority have. A right that doesn't harm or have the potential to harm anybody else.

Barring another unstated insecurity, that is. (Do I get bonus points for tying this back into the original story?)
