Bush Stirs Political Pot in Israel PDF Print E-mail
by Carolyn Barta    Thu, May 15, 2008, 09:16 AM

bush in israel.jpgIn a speech before the Knesset in Israel, President Bush criticized those who would employ a policy of appeasement in dealing with terrorists and radicals.  While he didn't mention Barack Obama's name, aides told the press that he was referring to Obama and former President Jimmy Carter and other Democrats.  Bush said, "Some seem to believe we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals."  He went on to say: "Call it what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."  Obama has said that he would meet with leaders in Iran and Carter has suggested meetings with Hamas.

The Obama campaign answered quickly.  The Democrat's communications manager Robert Gibbs called Bush's comments an "unprecedented political attack on foreign soil. " He said this kind of "cowboy diplomacy" over the last eight years has made the U.S. far less safe. Obama's rationale has been: How can you persuade Iran to drop its nuclear weapons program without discusssions?

Obama just a little touchy. It matters little what Obama says or thinks. He is not going to be president anyway.

It matters even less what Bush says or thinks; he's a lame duck who's simply running out the clock.

If I were you, I wouldn't bet a whole lot of money against Obama's chances.

Bush politically attacked Obama while on foreign soil. In his full remarks, Bush compared those who wish to withdraw US troops from Iraq with Nazi sympathasizers. That happens to be 70% of the US population. Bush appeased al Qaeda and Osama when he diverted our forces in Afghanistan to invade Iraq - a country which had nothing to do with 9/11. Bush and Cheney are the ones who have lead America's retreat from catching the perpetrators of 9/11. Our next president will be sorely challenged in dealing with the mess created by Bush/Cheney ineptness, blunders and wrong-headedness. Our next president will be Barack Obama.

Sorry, that should be sympathizers.

Let's take a look at bush's record. After 9/11, Iran contacted the US about an anti-AQ allaince. Cheney and Bush turned them down and then proceeded to insult them. Everything the Bush admin touches turns into excrement. Therefore, any opinion Bush has should instantly be relegated to a garbage bin to share space with his 'legacy'.

Byron, about your opinion of Obama's chances: the Dems just won their third special election in a Mississippi district that voted for Bush by twenty-five points in '04. Given this record, you might want to hold back on your electoral predictions unless you have an appetitie for crow.

El Hombre,
I always keep a little salt and hot sauce just in case I need to eat a little crow.

I will not believe Obama is the democratic nominee until it is a done deal. Hillary is not stupid and knows she is far behind. Makes me think that she has some major bomb to drop just before the convention.

My favorite part of that speach was when the President said that the US & Israel were peace loving nations. I almost fell off my bartool. Lately we have been nations of war, torture, rape, blood, bombing, occupation, etc.

Grr, maybe you would be happier in another country. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. I served in the US military alongside some of the greatest young people I will ever meet. This post is for them. The military is a hard job. Our entire US military should not be judged by the actions of a few.

Roger - Respect your service but what does it have to do with this post? The reason you were fighting (theoretically) was so that Grrr says what he wanted to say and then fall off his "bartool". Buuurp!

Seriously though - Bush is a major idiot. Who wrote that speech for him? At this point he should be trying to sound like a statesman. Not a tool. But he is what he is...

Obama may have a lot of people fooled, but he has no foreign policy experience, served less active days in the Senate to qualify him for any domestic knowledge, sat in a church for 20 years & didn't know what his so-called preacher was saying, & now has fooled the world with his abilty to talk about a change that would be funded with taxes that will come from the middle class. Sorry, he may not be able to carry this kind of farce to the finish line & the country had better hope he can't!!

JCC, I was responding to Grr's comments. He said "we have been nations of war, torture, rape, blood, bombing, occupation, etc." That was an unfair attack on the US military and as a patriot I really didn't appreciate his words. You're right, GRR has a right to his opinion, no matter how disgusting.

What does one do with a "bartool"? Maybe I don't want to know.
