Australian Man Buckles Up Beer, not Child PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Tue, May 13, 2008, 04:45 PM

Australia beer.jpgIn Australia, a man has been fined after buckling in a case of beer with a seat belt, but forcing a 5-year-old child to sit on the car’s floor, police said on Tuesday.

According to Fox News, “Constable Wayne Burnett said he was ‘shocked and appalled’ when he pulled over the unregistered car Friday in the central Australian town of Alice Springs. The 30-can beer case was strapped in between two adults sitting in the back seat of the car. The child was also in back, but on the car’s floor.”

On Tuesday, Burnett told reporters that the child was sitting unrestrained on the lump in the center. This was the first time the constable had seen a man show more concern for the beer than the child’s safety.

The driver faces a fine of $750 Australian dollars – about $710 – for failing to ensure a child was wearing a seat belt while he was driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

As you know, if the beer was spilled, that would be a major party foul.
