The $1.35 billion Dallas Independent School District bond election carried by 54 percent Saturday in a a low-turnout election. With all precincts reporting, 10,178 voted for the bonds, and 8,693 voted against.
$500K campaign vs no organized opposition? 1500 vote difference is hardly a resounding endorsement of DISD Board or management.
Apathy can be very expensive. This was a construction contract bond election. It was never about education. Dallas schools are begging for basic improvements, but we are spending a big chunk of this money is for Wilmer-Hutchins.
Now, the incompetent Supt and self-dealing Trustees have no reason to clean up their act. At least local media will have more corruption and chaos to report.

Sharon, This is not an argument. Do you have children in school? Are the facilities adequate? Be thankful that the voters will pass a bond issue for needed buildings. I know school districts that when it rains they get buckets to catch the water leaks. Time and time again bond elections are defeated. Amazingly, it is defeated by voters that are over 65 and whose taxes on the homestead will not increase one penny.
