State Rep. Miles Arraigned on Gun Charges PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, May 8, 2008, 11:05 AM

Borris Miles gun.jpgState Rep. Borris Miles, a Houston Democrat, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment this morning in a Harris County court. On April 14, Miles was indicted on two counts of deadly conduct stemming from complaints that he had brandished his pistol and made threats at two parties in December.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, “Ben Hall, an attorney for one of the people who accused Miles of threatening him, said recently that the two counts stemmed from two incidents. In the first, Miles is accused of showing a pistol and threatening Texas Southern University regent Willard Jackson and his wife during a Houston Rockets game with the Dallas Mavericks at the Toyota Center, Hall said.”

The second count is connected to an incident later that night in which Miles, allegedly, displayed a pistol and forcible kissed another man’s wife while crashing a party at the St. Regis Hotel Ballroom.

Miles lost his re-election bid to former state rep. Al Edwards in the March Democratic primary.

Will the Harris County DA dismiss the indictment here as quickly as he did on that Republican Supreme Court justice?
