Jesse Jackson Hosts Energy Symposium PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Wed, May 7, 2008, 10:56 AM

Jesse Jackson energy.jpgThis week Rev. Jesse Jackson is in Houston, hosting his second annual energy symposium downtown, while the massive Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) continues a few miles away.

Jackson is calling attention to the lack of women and minorities on the corporate boards of the oil and gas industry. Meanwhile, the OTC is focused on the latest drilling trends.

Jackson told the Houston Chronicle’s editorial board, “they know there’s a talent pool of directors that reflects the population. But they’ve maintained the old order and the incestuous relationships.”

Jackson also discussed other initiatives with the Chronicle, including his desire to push for more parental involvement in their children’s education. He is calling for parents to get to know the teacher, turn off the TV at night, pay attention to report cards and take children to religious services.

The Chronicle quotes Jackson as saying, “there must be a massive parent-teacher crusade to fortify the future of education.”
