Medical Marijuana Patient Denied Liver Transplant PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, May 5, 2008, 09:58 AM

Medical marijuana.jpgDr. Brad Roter, a physician, authorized Timothy Garon, 56, to use marijuana to ease the symptoms of advanced hepatitis C. The doctor requested Timothy smoke pot to alleviate nausea and abdominal pain and to stimulate his appetite.

In 1998, the use of medical marijuana was authorized under a Washington state law approved by voters.

The Seattle Times reports that, “Garon died Thursday, one week after he said he learned from his doctor that a University of Washington Medical Center Committee had again denied him a spot on the liver transplant list.”

Garon died at the Bailey-Boushay House, an intensive-care nursing center, which was confirmed Friday by his lawyer, Douglas Hiatt, and Alisha Mark, a spokeswoman for Virginia Mason Medical Center that operates Bailey-Boushay.

Garon believed he may have contracted hepatitis by sharing needles with “speed freaks” as a teenager.

Seems to me that we have one less "speed freak" in the world. Good Riddance.

I think I know why the Doctor refused the patient, because the patient didnt give him a hit. Or perhaps it is because the Doctor has some golfing buddy that needs the liver more than his patient.
