KHOU, a School officials said their zero tolerance policy should come as no surprise to students or parents. They want the children to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, since it’s a crime to set-off a false fire alarm. As the fire alarm sounded, the entire school of 1,500 students had to be evacuated, but only 11 minutes of instruction time was lost. KHOU quotes Cindy Carreau, the mother of the boy who hid under the desk, as saying, “these kids think these are pranks. They are not. He made a mistake. He knows what he did, and he’s very remorseful.” To read the entire article from KHOU, link here:

written by xyz , May 02, 2008 What's nuts about it? This goes way beyond discipline. It could have gotten someone hurt (student/responder) and cost the City a great deal of money responding to the alarm. He criminalized himself. His life shouldn't be ruined for it, but he should pay a price such as community service. Is no one responsible for his/her actions anymore? I'll never understand the liberal world.

written by Petey Jones , May 02, 2008 Are you two serious? You think a FELONY is appropriate punishment for a MIDDLE SCHOOL PRANK? Thank God they didn't have this policy when I was growing up, or I'd still be in jail (and I wasn't even a bad kid). Ridiculous.

written by Byron George , May 02, 2008 Petey, I don't know how old you are but when I was in school they didin't need to threaten jail time. The just busted your butt and called your parents so they could bust you when you got home.

written by J. Smithe , May 02, 2008 Petey, I too don't know how old you are, but pulling the fire alarm has been a felony for many many years. They very rarey actaully go through with the charge, but every student in every school knows the seriousness of pulling the alarm. The consequence of pulling the alarm is so well known, that for these two boys to actually go through and do it shows a flagrant disregard for the rules. They were pushing the limits, and they are not feeling the consequence of that decision... Yeah, seems pretty right on target to me. Write comment
