Hispanic Population Surge Driven by Births PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, May 1, 2008, 02:02 PM

Births Hispanics.jpgAccording to Census Bureau Data, Hispanics now account for more than 15% of the U.S. population, and their surge is largely the result of births among people already in the country.

The Wall Street journal reports that, “in an annual report, the Census said there are 45.5 million Hispanics in the U.S. up from 35.7 million in 2000, when they made up 12.6% of the population. It said growth among Hispanics was responsible for half of the U.S. population gains between 2000 and 2007.”

A flood of immigrants did explain the group’s population rise in the 1990s. But in recent years, between 2006 and 2007, about 62% of the increase in Hispanics came from births.

According to the Journal, “Hispanics increasingly are venturing beyond their traditional centers of population and moving to the Southeast and the Midwest, in search of better opportunities and a lower cost of living.”

Awesome! The article failed to recognize that hispanic people have injected soul & culture into our society. Come on people, just admit it, we white people are pretty much a bland reproduction of Germans & the British. We go all crazy for apple pie & hot dogs as "American." It doesn't get any more boring that that. No one loves their mothers like hispanic folk. And mole, peppers, salsa, novelas, day of the dead festival. Now that's culture!

Sure, quite a few of hispanics are here illegally. Who cares? The most exciting thing we do is get up in the morning. Under the most extreme circumstances, they are living in our country & we should thank them for what they have brought with them.

A lot of us care and not for the slanderous reasons given by people like you, Grr. Illegal is illegal. Which laws should we overlook? Who gets to choose which ones we ignore and which ones we enforce? How can we enforce immigration laws against, say, Chinese, Germans, or Laplanders, and not against Mexicans without being guilty of blatant discrimination? Are do you want to do away with all immigration laws? If so, say so.

Getting up may be the most exciting thing you do in the morning, but what does that have to do with anything?

Finally, what "most extreme circumstances" are you talking about? Are they persecuted? Are they being killed in Mexico?

xyz,

Kinda touchy today, huh?

Look, if there was a immigration plan that everyone was on board with, I'd be out in the streets demanding deportations. What we have here is ICE having a donut shop and chicken factory fetish. Further, I get really suspecious of people getting all law & order about something that really doesn't effect them.

I guess this is where I here all of the whining about schools, crime, hospitals, etc. These are really abstract concepts for most, not all, people. What it is, is bigotry.

See, this is just another case for legal abortion. You right wingers will have less Hispanics to deal with if they can abort their embryos. It's win win for you.

Holy Roller: It's my understanding that most conservatives are pro-life. Those conservatives don't encourage Hispanics, African-Americans or other minority groups to seek abortions. You're statement is not only offensive but racist.

Let's just take a page from our history to deal with our latest immigration problem: Like we eventually did with the Irish, Southern and Eastern Europeans, let's just declare Latinos to be 'white'. We're halfway there already. Most forms that I've seen already ask whether a white person has any Hispanic heritage in their background. Let's just take it the next step. Let the conservatives announce that Hispanic immigrants are white and let them get back to fearing that Obama is a closet Muslim out to enact the secret plan to enslave the white race while allowing his cousin Osama to attack white churches in the US at will.

Tom, I'm fully aware conservatives are anti-abortion. But if you weren't, you'd have less articles to write about how you're drowning in minorities. Or was that not the intention of your veiled argument?

All I could get from your blog is "Hispanics are giving birth! OMG!"

Holy Roller: You insinuate that it bothers me to have Hispanics coming to the U.S. You are mistaken! I post articles that seem interesting to the readers of the Dallas Blog. It just so happens that many readers post comments on immigration. This doesn't mean I have taken a pro- or anti-immmigration stance.

It think it reads “their surge is largely the result of births among people already in the country” hence not illegal, the child that is born that is, which is what I have been saying and they will vote because they are citizens. I saw them in 2006 in oak cliff where I vote and all the fools voted democrat because they feel that the conservatives hate them. Keep deporting their families. The funny thing is that conservatives never understood that Hispanics are natural conservatives, love in god, love in family, love in country [you just have to allow them to make this their country also…you wouldn’t be able to handle the love], some what anti gay [where special rights should not be needed] and fiscally conservative. Your loss.

I don't mind an injection of culture. What I have a problem with is when schools stop sending notices home in English altogether. What I have a problem with is when I go to Kroger, and all the signs are hand written in Spanish, and there is no English signs to be seen. What I really have a problem with is when school district begin to demand that Principals have to learn Spanish if they want to keep their job. What I really have a problem with is when I go to any place and I need service, and the individual who is supposed to be helping me can not speak the language. What I have a problem with is going to the emergency room with a real issue like a broken foot, and all the paperwork is in Spanish because no one knows where the English forms are.

I don't have a problem with an injection of culture, though I don't agree with Grrrr's account of the white culture. That may be his experience and thats sad that is how he or she grew up, but the whites I know have wonderful and varied traditions.

Cultural injection is a great thing, but cultural domination and cultural apathy is totally different, and that I think is what many Americans have a problem with. There is no outward appearance of wanting to become American, it's simply wanting what they had, but they want it here. There's no social responsibility, there's no cultural respect. In Mexico, they may all Speak English and speak it well, but if you live there by god they expect you to learn the language or leave.

Most children born in the United States, learn to speak English and English becomes their dominant language. Hispanics have very strong conservative values, we have family values, we love God and we take care of our elders.

Hispanics work hard, contribute to America and pay taxes.

What is it that anti immigrants, anti Hispanics do not get, is it the legal or illegal question or is it the culural domination that one speaks of. Hispanics are not interrested in domination, we are interested in being treated with respect and dignity.

OMG, this is nuts, well first I think that I have made myself very clear about how I, myself, feel about those stinking, slimy, no good illegal mexicans.

First the births, of these brats, well the U.S. goverment DID repeal the anchor baby part of the law, so now the baby can, and should be deported with the spick parents.

Second, I do think that this is a very good argument for legal abortion's, or illegal, I dont care. As far as the spice of life thing, I like being bland, I dont like peppers on or in everything. Now if you do Grr, that is your problem only, you like it, go live over there, more room for legal people here.

Third, I really dont care if the kids can speak american or not. Its you, the stinking slimy illegal mexicans, you are the ones that are either to stupid or to lazy to learn the language of the land. The parents of these brats, then ALL of you should be placed Back in what ever hole you crawled out of, and then to make sure you are ok, place a really big rock on top of the hole, for safety.

Now this goes for ALL races, if you are here legal, and working to better yourself, then god bless, and I wish you well. But if you are not here legal, then for all I care, you should be hunter down and well hunted down kinda says it all huh.

I am sick and tired of these mexicans coming over here and messing up our schools, Hospitals, and everything in general. I cant go into a store without hearing that cockroach music. Or when I lay down at night to go to sleep, most of the night is (bummm bummm bummm) going down the street, from the morons with the music systems, and I am tired of it. And I dont think that I am the only one either, I think that if all the people who were against the illegal mexicans coming over here, then out goverment would have to do something about it.

I reserve the right to comment further about this subject.

For now, peace out
