Fox News reports that, “Hofmann died of a heart attack at his home in Hofmann’s hallucinogen inspired – and allegedly corrupted – millions of the hippie generation in the 1960s. Hofmann continued to defend his invention for decades after the LSD was banned in the late 1960s. The Swiss chemist is quoted by Fox News as saying, “I produced the substance as a medicine … It’s not my fault if people abused it.” He made himself a human guinea pig by experimenting with the drug. He described the experience as being distorted in a “warped mirror,” in which he felt motionless even while he was riding his bike at a high rate of speed.
