Industrial Name Redux Re-diculous PDF Print E-mail
by Carolyn Barta    Wed, Apr 30, 2008, 03:32 PM
In what looks like an exercise in political correctness, the suggested new names for Industrial Boulevard have been narrowed to 10 finalists.  Let's see: Does it make sense to name the new boulevard or parkway after Stanley Marcus, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cesar Chavez or Eddie Bernice Johnson? Why rename it if the new name doesn't somehow link it to the Trinity project? Of the 10 finalists, that would be Trinity Lakes Boulevard or Trinity View Parkway.  Guess it could be Waterfront Boulevard or Riverfront Boulevard (also on the Top 10 list). Why not just Trinity Parkway? The City Council's Trinity River committee will meet Tuesday to select three finalists from the 10 names that came out of a poorly attended citizens committee last night at City Hall.  Perhaps the most ridiculous are Ascension Drive (to what will drivers to ascending?) or Post Industrial  Boulevard.  Can you imagine giving directions to a visitor:  Just go a couple miles down Post Industrial...

I wish that it would have been easier to find the city hall suggestion box online to give them some more names. But when I went to the City of Dallas portal when they announced the name change contest so to speak, I was unable to find the correct spot to submit my suggestions. Hopefully the city council will hire a good website manager with an easier to find search in the future.

This is stupid why not leave it alone I think that keeping the name it has always had is fine, I have no idea why it is a good idea to change the name.
But if we were how about BOUGHT AND PAID FOR .bld, TOLL4EVER.av, VOTEYESONO. Bld, or THISHIGH.av. [ that will look good when the levee breaks because of the toll road on top and they show the street sign on the news, it will be forward thinking, the water is THISHIGH.]

I received several requests to go last night and support renaming Industrial to Cesar Chavez Blvd. I stayed home and watched "American Idol" instead. I can live with any of the names chosen. My personal favorite is Stevie Ray Vaughan, followed closely by Eddie Bernice Johnson.

During our last Dallas mayoral race, the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce did not have the class or integrity to invite me, the only Hispanic candidate, to its forum. And Temple Emmanuel only invited white male candidates to its mayoral forum. By the way, speaking of Temple Emmanuel, I got several calls during the campaign from a man offering to sell me dirt on Ed Oakley, and the caller ID said "Temple Emmanuel". I asked the caller what his connection to TE was and he said he lived at TE. Go figure.

The folks supporting Chavez and Marcus need to learn to walk the walk before talking the talk.

It is not in the interest of the general public to name this street for a river or lake park that is not in existance as we speak. Let's build it then name. It the NTTA has yet to agree to build the tollway as we speak.
