Earthquake Shakes Northern California PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Wed, Apr 30, 2008, 02:40 PM

Bigfoot.jpgA moderate earthquake shakes a mountainous region of Northern California on Tuesday night. No accounts of injury or damage have been immediately reported.

At 8:03 p.m. (local time) a magnitude 5.2 temblor struck. The epicenter was located about 11 miles southeast of the town of Willow Creek in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, according to the E.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Fox News reports that, “because of its depth, a few aftershocks were felt, scientists said. About three were recorded, with the largest measuring a magnitude 2.4, the USGS reported … The quake was felt as far north as Crescent City near the Oregon state line and as far south as San Francisco, 320 miles away, according to citizens’ reports posted on the USGS Web site.”

The town of Willow Creek has a population of 1,800, sitting between Redding and Arcata. The town is most recognized for being California’s “Bigfoot capital,” which is surrounded by thick forest.
