Cosby: Blacks Nonchalant about Drugs, Violence PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Sat, Apr 26, 2008, 03:29 PM

Bill Cosby.jpgThe comedian, Bill Cosby, says apathy among some African-Americans about violence, drugs, profanity and teenage sex has sunk to a level of asking to “pass the salt.”

Fox News quotes Bill Cosby as telling an invitation-only crowd of about 600, which included teenagers identified as “at-risk,” by juvenile authorities, with his complaints about nonchalant reactions to serious problems.

“Well, the mother’s on crack cocaine. Pass the salt,” he said. “That girl’s baby has no father. Pass the salt. Oh, he shot him in the head. Pass the salt.”

Cosby appeared at the function with Superior Court Judge Marvin Arrington, an African-American who expelled whites out of his courtroom while he lectures black defendants. The event was held at Benjamin Mays High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cosby dismissed criticism that he was airing dirty laundry in the black community. He is quoted by Fox News as saying, “That’s crazy. There are black people who have to walk around the dirty laundry.”

Chris Tucker, the comedian-actor who starred in the “Rush Hour” films also attended the event. He urged the audience members to find something they’re passionate about, otherwise it’s very easy to get into trouble.

Oh, uncle Crosby, please tell us something we don't know already. When is the last time he put his money where his mouth is?

Yea GRR so what is the black community going to do about it? Mr. Cosby is right.

Cosby has always been very generous with scholarships and aid.

When you are dealing with troubled kids, a celeb's voice is heard much louder than their parents or other adults.

He has taken so much grief for speaking the truth, rather than blaiming others.

He is a Black man who believes that any Black person can achieve, can excell. Only a bigot (regardless of their color) thinks that the current status of mayhem (drugs, babies outside of marriage, violence) is the best we can expect from the Black community, or any other ethnic group.

Cosby stands up and speaks out despite criticism. An Uncle Tom would go along to get along. Might want to read up on the classics before you refer to them.

Ms. Boyd, I am correct because he is getting along by saying exactly what white people love to hear. Oh, I forgot, white people don't think there is racism in this country.

No Grrrrr, White people just don't harp on it and are not as aware of it. Yes, there is a problem that they don't notice it, but your average white person doesn't perpetuate it. People like you do Grrr. You validate it, you hard on it, and it makes you bitter. So it continues because people like you feed energy and strngth into it. You are your own worst enemy.

Cosby, just because his comments are not PC doesn't make him wrong. Quite the contrary.

White people KNOW THERE IS RACISM as they see BLACK RACISTS walk freely through the media without nary a word EXCEPT for FoxNews.

Cosby HATES WHITE PEOPLE but whites just want someone BLACK to tell BLACKS whats what

Smithe & Equality, those are the strangest formulations on racism I think I have heard of in a long time. Astonishing. I think I'll take Ms. Boyd's advice & read the classics!
