A group, describing themselves as “commandos,” who are terrorists aiming to cripple Nigeria’s oil export industry, have asked former President Jimmy Carter and Hollywood movie-star to help resolve issues in the oil-rich Niger delta.

According to CNN News, “in a letter written by a group Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, or MEND, the group said they attacked two pipelines they believed are owned by Chevron Corp. and Shell Oil.”

Currently, Carter is in the Middle East, where he has met with the exiled militant Hamas leader Khalid Meshaal on what he considers a “study mission” to support peace, democracy and human rights in the region.

MEND wants Jimmy Cater to mediate their disputes with the Nigerian government and oil companies. MEND’s letter also informed Carter that they prefer to be known as, “freedom fighters,” not terrorists.
