Cannaday in statistical dead heat with Valdez PDF Print E-mail
by Cannaday Press Release    Mon, Apr 21, 2008, 01:41 PM

DALLAS, TX – Lowell Cannaday, Republican nominee for Dallas County Sheriff, released a poll today showing him and Lupe Valdez in a statistical dead heat in the upcoming November election for Dallas County Sheriff.  The polling data shows Dallas County voters are dissatisfied with Valdez and are turning to Cannaday as the clear alternative.

“I think the results from this poll validate why every major law enforcement organization, dozens of elected officials and voters from all across the county are supporting me for sheriff,” Cannaday said.  “I also believe these results further show there is a growing dissatisfaction with how the sheriff’s department has been run and it is critical these problems be resolved.”

The survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates taken between April 14-15 shows Cannaday trailing by a mere 31.6% to Valdez’ 32.3%.  Of those likely voters that have an opinion of both Cannaday and Valdez, Cannaday leads Valdez overwhelmingly by a 51.2% to 34.1% margin.

The survey also shows Cannaday having an overall better favorable to unfavorable opinion among voters than Valdez.  Cannaday holds a 30.4% favorable rating among likely voters and a 13.5% unfavorable rating while Valdez holds a 31.3% favorable rating and 29.3% unfavorable rating.

When asked to rate Valdez’ overall job performance, 45.2% of likely voters said she had done only a fair or poor job as sheriff with only 29.5% saying she had done an excellent or good job.  And when asked if Valdez was their choice for sheriff regardless of who her opponent may be only 26% responded they would definitely vote for her in November.

Valdez fails to reach any of the benchmarks for an incumbent.  She receives less than 50% on the ballot test, less than 50% favorable opinion among likely voters, less than 50% positive job approval rating and less than 30% on the hard re-elect.

Lowell Cannaday must never be sheriff. He has already stated that he wants to dabble in the illegal alien business. We need 100% concentration on the condition of the jail. Just say no to the wanna be ICE agent, "Mr. ICE."

Lowell Cannaday would clearly represent Dallas County's best choice for Dallas County Sheriff.

Chief Cannaday will give everyone a fair chance and treat everyone with dignity and fairness. That includes inmates, citizens and DSO Employee's!

Thats more than I can say about "your Sheriff" now!

So, you're pleased with the 100% attention your current sherif is giving you? I'll take Cannaday giving the jail 50% of his attention versus Valdez's 100% any day of the week.

I think he can probably pass the peace officer test too.

And maybe, just maybe, we can get someone who will actually get a jail that will pass an inspection.

Wow, what a concept!!!

Cannaday would be a welcome change to the incompetent incumbent.

Just say no to 4 more years of Loopy.

The Jail will pass inspection next year regardless of who is sheriff. Valdez and the Commissioners have fixed the major problems, and all that's left is a smoke alarm system that takes time to install.

Valdez hasn't handled talking to the press well, but she's done a good job fixing the huge mess the Republican sheriff before her created.

What mess? The jails passed inspection every year BEFORE Loopy got elected and has failed EVERY YEAR since she's been Sheriff. Moreover, we now have a Federal Civil Rights lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice against Sheriff Loopy, due to the improper treatment and civil rights violations committed against inmates - some of whom died as a result of such negligence. The problem isn't just about a smoke alarm system; it's far worse and more flagrant (we the taxpayers have to pay to settle all those lawsuits and civil rights claims filed on behalf of inmates). Besides all this, Sheriff Loopy cannot manage a budget, cannot get the respect of anyone she manages or reports to, and most of the law enforcement community has endorsed and will support Cannaday. Need anybody say more?
