After all, according to the New York Times, “in the last two years, Board members have passed laws banning plastic bags at supermarkets and plastic foam containers at food outlets, proposed an ordinance to fine office buildings that left lights on overnight, and yes, floated a proposition to make lobbyists wear a name tag when doing business at City Hall. (And outside, too.)” Mayor Newsom is quoted by the NY Times as saying, “I think we hit a point of saturation. And I’m trying to make that point to the Board.” Some business groups do not anticipate the Board to make amends. So, the Golden Gate Restaurant Association filed a lawsuit against the city over a fee in its 2006 universal healthcare plan, which the group claims has led to marked increases in the cost of doing business.
